Just bought this (after 10 yrs using TT). Very please with it but have couple of questions please.

Is this unit protected or can one install other maps on the SD card, say?

Have always downloaded speed camera data base from here but is there a view on which is better - this or the Garmin subscription one.

You can install other maps if you wish to, I run a topo on my 2508 and 1490.

IMO the cameras from here are far better, and I used the Garmin ones for a while before making the switch. First they are more up to date, second the cost is less even if you never report new/changed cameras, if you do cost is significantly cheaper. I bought my first subscription a few years ago now, it's not due to run out for about 4 years thanks to reporting new cameras so if I never come across another one I've paid for a year and will have had about 6 years of use Very Happy

So, if I delete "UKIrelandCyclopsSample.gpi" from the POI folder and install files from here via POI loader, will it work? As mentioned, am new to Garmin.

Using the file from here with POILoader is the way to go for up to date cameras.

Lookup/search sox.exe, get the 24x24 icon set, investigate the various voice packs available here and read up on the finer points again all here. Once you have cracked it it's plain sailing each time you update the cameras.

Many thanks! I agree, with TomTom it was easy as I, guess, I got used to it.

One question - does the sox.exe go into POI folder on the Satnav or in the POI Loader directory on my PC? When I click on the PC sox.exe file, nothing happens.

It needs to be in the folder that contains POILoader

Wherever POILoader.exe is on your PC

There are a few things that have to be 'just so' but as I said, once you've got it working then it's just a matter of downloading the new PGPSW zip file.

You are not supposed to run it like that.

Sox just goes in the POI loader folder. It is run invisibly in the background after you have setup all the alert distances in POI loader.

Make sure you delete any other PGPSW camera database from the Garmin or you will not get any alerts.

If you use the same filename in POILoader it will overwrite the previous file. The filename is initially the Windows folder name you are using.

I created a folder PGPSW on my D drive that is my 'working folder' where I download the zipfile to and unpack it so it automatically puts that into the box in POILoader so I don't forget to change it.
