Transferring routes to Garmin 2460

Has anybody used Tyre (itinerary planning software) with a Garmin 2460?
I have previously used it with a Tom Tom and it worked fine but I cannot get it to work with my Garmin. I can transfer the route from my PC but it does not show on my Garmin.
Failing that what is the best method for planning a route on a PC with say Google Maps and then transferring it to my Garmin?

Finally I have am 8gb SD card in my Garmin which is formatted as FAT 32 and recognised by the PC as is my Garmin but I cannot find out how to make use of it as there does not seem to be an option to save routes or maps to the SD card. The internal memory on my Garmin is nearly full and my SD card is empty.

You can't save routes to the card via the menu on your nuvi. For detail on routes/trips see here

Note they appear under Apps.

Tyre though should be able to send routes to the sd card, just note the .gpx file needs to be in a folder named GPX. However since they take up very little room there shouldn't be a need to do so.

Thanks for your reply. I can see the route I have copied from Tyre to my Nuvi 2460lt in the GPX folder but I cannot access it when I have disconnected the Sat Nav from my PC. I have read in another Forum that it takes several minutes for it to appear in Trip Planner. When I copied an 85 mile trip to my Nuvi and left it on overnight only the first section of the trip showed not the complete trip.

I looked at your link but unfortunately there is no icon in Settings or elsewhere for User Data or My Data on my Sat Nav in order to access imported routes.
There must be some way of planning a route on a PC and then transferring that route to my Sat Nav. I could do it fairly easily with my old TomTomGo 700 using tyre but there is no import route facility on my 2460LT

The part that applies to your nuvi doesn't mention icons, user data etc. You have a 2400 series so the route will appear under Apps, Trip Planner automatically.

You also have the older style of Trip Planner so will only see the first part of the 'trip', the next part will appear once you get to the end of the first part etc etc.

Thanks for the info. That is what I thought would happen, that the next section is displayed when I complete the previous section.
I am considering buying a new Sat Nav and possibly going back to TomTom. If I do buy a new one it would be the latest version of either Garmin (3598LMT-D) or TomTom 6000. If I stayed with Garmin I take it that I would have the latest version of Trip Planner and be able to transfer the route and drive it in one go without having all the sections independently displayed?
Also I find the 2460LT I currently have is extremely slow plan a route if the car is not stationary. I am reluctant to start to drive if the route hasn't been planned as it can take some 5-10 mins before it completes the route planning if the car is moving.
This wasn't the case with my old TTGo700 which was very quick to plan a route whether I was moving or stopped. Garmin support told me it was because TomTom plane the route from the destination back to your current position whereas Garmin plan it from your current position.
I would appreciate your thoughts on the above.

I have a 2508 which is a 2013 model, and it was from that year on that the newer trip planner style was introduced. It shows the whole route, and also allows the use of 'shaping' points throughout a route as well as waypoints. Waypoints you HAVE to go through, shaping points you can simply skip if you want to.

The 3598 behaves the same way so would do what you want.

I've not noticed any appreciably delay in planning a route provided the satnav has a satellite fix. Like any satnav, gaining an initial fix will take longer IF the car is moving. I tend to switch mine on as I'm getting into the car, putting my seatbelt on etc and so by the time I'm ready to go I have a fix.

Latest Tyre from here http://www.tyretotravel.com/ works OK with my 2508.

Having said that I find Garmin's Basecamp far easier to use.

That's useful info so thanks. I've only had one satnav and the OneXL has been great but needs new battery and screen not so responsive as it was.

I hadn't heard of BaseCamp but will have a look so may buy a Garmin now.

Bascamp takes bit of getting used to - but is very powerful. Plus it will use the maps off your Garmin (useful if you are short of disk space - but you can download them to your PC so you can plan without it being connected)
