Hi all

i'm in the market for a new car sat nav...i'm liking the garmin series as i've used my brothers old one ( more than 4yrs old) and i love the interface

my requirements are:

1) have speed camera audio alerts
2) be able to send locations/destinations to the sat nav either from my android phone or ideally my laptop
3) be quick/snappy and not take an age to load in the mornings
4) ideally have digital traffic
5) only need UK/ROI maps, for europe i can use my car's built in one i guess if needed but this is highly unlikely!

i had narrowed it down to the 3598 lmt-d but i'm struggling to find this anywhere

what is the actual difference between this model and the lower priced 2598 lmt-d?

i understand that model also have lifetime maps and traffic and digital traffic...so whats the extra £100 for?

many thanks!

Do you really want the 2598? If all you're after is UK maps the 2508LMT-D gives you all you need, although you may struggle to find one with lifetime maps, in which case you may need the 2548LMT-D if that is important to you.

The 3598 is from the 'Prestige' range and my understanding is that this range is being discontinued, leaving the Essential and Advanced series in future. The 25x8 models are from the Advanced range, the differences simply being which map comes pre-installed and Bluetooth. You can compare the various ranges here:

https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/catalog/product/compareResult.ep?compareProduct=121763&compareProduct=122526&compareProduct=122511&compareProduct=122506

One other point that may be of interest. The 25x8 series have the digital traffic receiver built into the satnav. The 3598 on the other hand has the receiver built into the power cable. Some don't like the resulting 'bulky' cable.

Also available now is the 25x9 series, prices are here as the 25x9 series is similar to the 25x8:

http://www.satnav-discounts.co.uk/gps/product/latest-models/garmin/garmin-nuvi-2569lmt-d/

As you will see, and perhaps already know, making sense of the Garmin range can be tricky and with the recent release of this years 'Essential' series that have many of the features of last years 'Advanced' range the water is even muddier, although none of them currently have digital traffic, which for me having now used it for a year or so I wouldn't be without.

Hi,

many thanks for the reply

well, i dont really need europe maps!

so would you recommend the 25x9 series over the 3589? does the 25x9 have the lifetime digital traffic?

many thanks

i think I like the sound of the 2599 lmt-d, would this be the best mid-range one to go for? 139 in halfords at the moment!

Argos and Halfords are doing some good deals at the moment. As you say, as long as it's LMT-D then your OK.

Interesting to see on the 25x9 series the options to skip the next Destination or Shaping point, something that has been requested over the years and was on a mio I used many years ago. Unlikely to be introduced via a software update for older Garmins though unless Garmin change their policy

Surprised As a long term TomTom user I have been disgruntled with the supreme effort required to 'Mark next waypoint as visited' when following a preloaded route on TomTom.
Just exactly how many commands are needed to Skip Next on the Garmin?
Is there a wait on re-plan during the process?
Are these commands available in voice command mode?

As I nearly always use trip planners, the performance is crucial.

I don't have that model so not sure about voice command, nor how many presses to get to that screen. Hopefully someone will have one and can help.

I don't use mine for navigation so I can't help either.

Is there an online manual?
