Anyone else seen this?

I set my cruise control on my car for 50mph. The sat nav seems to oscillate between 49 and 51 with occasional down to 48 and up to 52.

This has only started recently and it used to be dead steady at 50.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Laughing

I've not noticed it as I don't monitor my unit that closely. Cruise control can be erratic on hills and slopes but I guess your using a flat section?

I've often wondered how SatNav speeds can be that accurate when it's assessing satellite positions that are hundreds of miles away with clouds and weather in the way.
I know car speedos are deliberately calibrated on the safe side but I still use my car one when passing cameras.

Velocity is easy from the Doppler shift on the satellite signal. It's your position that's difficult, with triangulation on several satellites required.

As far as fixing the satnav is concerned. No. But I'm with sussamb and get your cruise control looked at if you're that concerned about the difference.

A couple of mph either way is very common with cruise control.

Speed yo-yo-ing can be even worse on a six or seven speed auto as if the speed drops, the 'box sometimes change down and the car then accelerates away!

If your car has a speed limiter, that usually behaves better. And is good for saving fuel too.

The car is on a level road and the sat nav used to be very stable. I've reset it and will try again tonight on my next journey southwards.
