I just bought one of these from Amazon UK. Robust and smooth to boot up compared to a Garmin but missing a real basic: UK Supermarket POIs. My 2010 Garmin 1470 had all convenience stores and supermarkets pre-loaded but with Tom Tom I can't find any food retail outlets, only restaurants!

Is there an ov2 file with UK supermarkets here on this site? I'd prefer one combining all the major retailers to save me loading them company by company. Does the £4 joining fee cover it? Thanks.

There is, at the top of each page, a Free Downloads Tab, with a link to FREE downloads. Smile

Yes again.

In detail:

i. Go to http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=POIs&Download

ii. Choose UK as the country in step 1 and wait for the long list of categories to load. (sometimes this is problematic, it seems to depend on your web-browser and whether there's an "r" in the month!)

iii. Select TomTom .ov2 in step 2.

iv. Select the supermarket brands you want from the list in step 3

v. Then select "Combine subcategories into category file" in step 4 to merge them all into a single "Supermarkets" POI

vi. Click "Download" and then unzip the downloaded file into the separate .ov2 and .bmp files

vii. Copy those files into the map folder on your TomTom.

however these supermarket files are quite out of date. Speaking as one who does a lot of 'dashboard dining' being able to find a local supermarket is quite useful. Many of the newer locals are not listed at all.

I have contacted a number of supermarkets asking for either a POI list to be generated or offering to do this for them if they could send me the addresses in a suitable format. Of course all I have ever received in reply is the normal brush off letter or being referred to their store locator app.

I do my best to add the missing ones to pgpsw.

Perhaps we need rewards for prolific pgpsw POI updaters?

I recently spent quite a while going through the screwfix catalogue and checking every store against pgpsw and adding the ones that were missing.

Screwfix used to have their own POI files on their web site but has been missing now for some time

It would be really useful too if somebody could update the Fuel categories. Several BP and Texaco filling stations have changed hands but still show the "old" brands. Also there is no subcategory for Tesco, but Asda, Sainsburys etc are all there.

It would also be good if you identified the entrance to the site rather than the building itself.

the trick is to update these things yourself as and when you come across them.

The POIs are a cooperative and rely on everybody updating them as they find additions or corrections.

It seems most peeps want 'somebody' to update the POIs but don't wish to do it themselves.

As said I spent hours of my own time checking and updating the Screwfix POIs, which should be 100% correct. Have just got a copy of their new catalogue and will add any new stores I found listed within.

I have in the past sent speed camera submissions to PGPSW and map updates to TomTom, but how would I update a third party POI database? Quite willing to correct any anomalies I find.

You update the PGPSW POIs in a very similar way to updating the speed cameras. The link is at the top of the page, under Free Downloads, then Submit your POIs.

I'm also a little confused by your comment about Tesco - there IS a Tesco Fuel category, so I'm not sure why you can't find it.

OMG I must be going blind. You're right there is a Tesco list, I'll add it to my TomTom, and I didn't realize I could amend the database so easily. From now on I'll "sit up and pay attention". Thanks.

I think I spoke too soon. I'm trying to change a known filling station from Gulf to BP but can't seem to find the right combination of buttons to press. An Idiot's guide please!

@psyskiesman

There are some notes, nearer the bottom of the Submission Page, but they haven't fully caught up with the changes on the submission Page yet.

But in this instance - zoom in, on the map, on your chosen Fuel Station and Left Click the Gulf Icon.

From the pop-up window select Edit this POI. This will fill the form with the current information.

In the drop down box, titled SubCat., select (in this instance), BP.

If there are no further changes to make then click Submit Entry.
