I have just tried to download this update but am told that I have insufficient capacity on my SD disk.
However, this was a new 8GB disk, bought when 2014.20 was too large to load on the device and the only files on it are from this previous download.
According to the properties tab, I have approx 3.5 GB free and 4.5 GB used on the card. Should it not just overwrite the previous map file?
If I delete the existing Garmin/GMAPPROM file on the SD disk and try again will I be OK? |

You should be, but rather than delete them I'd copy them onto your PC just in case. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Have done as suggested, thank you.
Looking at files now on card, it seems that the file name appears in lower case this time, which may explain why it did not overwrite. |

Possibly ... but Express is meant to delete older files, mine didn't do it either so I'll be reporting it to Garmin's Express team _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I wouldn't hold your breath, unlikely to be sorted soon. Just delete the old map manually if necessary. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

That's easier said than done. Even with my Win7 setup configured to show both hidden and system operating files they fail to show some files in Windows Explorer.
I can see the map files on my SD card but the same named files on the Garmin fail to display. In fact I cannot see the .system folder at all on my units. _________________ Satnav:

Ah, that's because on the later nuvis they're automatically in mtp mode to 'prevent' people fiddling. You need to manually set them to mass storage mode to see the .system folder as well as have Win set to show hidden and system files. To change to mass storage mode:
1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down NUVI and connect to PC
7. It should now connect in mass storage mode.
As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "dashboard" screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen.
Now you might ask why Garmin do this, I suspect it's to stop people fiddling and bricking their satnavs, but as long as you know what you're doing all should be well. If you're unsure ask and I'll help if I can
The OP and I have maps on sd cards which makes it easier _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Got to the bottom of this. The Garmin Express team have explained that Express will only delete a previous map file if it hasn't been renamed from the original name that Express gave it when it was installed.
Now I tend to rename mine to something more descriptive as I run various maps, so that's why I had to delete them manually. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Doesn't explain my experience. I loaded 2015,20 on to a new SD disk using GE and made no changes to allocated file names. It then told me that I had insufficient space to load 2015.30.
Therefore it appears that there is another, unexplained, issue. |

Ah ha, knew there had to be a solution - ta
I'm still confused why we are now on 2015.30 whilst 2015 is still 2½ months away ?
At this rate we will have had all our 2015 maps before the year actually starts ! _________________ Satnav:

Well you said there was a difference in case on your file names so they didn't then match? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Bit like the accounting year I guess, the final 2015.xx will be in early 2015, then in around April we'll start with 2016.xx _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
