Grimsby's Peaks Parkway Speed Limit Raised

A speed camera petition has led to a speed limit being raised by 10mph.

The new limit will be in place on Grimsby's Peaks Parkway by the end of October 2014. The town stretch of the road will increase from 30mph to 40mph.

It was reported that there was "widespread outrage" after drivers starting receiving speeding fines following the installation of average speed cameras along the stretch last October.

All four of Grimsby's political groups backed the change which followed the petition that called for the increase. It was signed by almost 2,000 people.

The average speed cameras will remain in place, prompting Council leader Chris Shaw to warn drivers: "You've got your 40mph limit on Peaks Parkway so don't come bleating to me if you get a ticket!"

Another interesting point on this I saw reported was that the Police objected to the increase. The grounds were (the same old hackneyed statements) accident rates and congestion would increase. However this was rejected by the Council Committee as the Police could provide no evidence to support the claims!
