My old Tom Tom Go of 10 years and a really excellent servant has been retired and replaced with a Smart 25, my old one had a compass which was extremely useful when detouring but the new model has not can anybody point me in the direction (no pun intended) to getting a POI compass to download

Thanks in advance

No such poi exists to my knowledge.

Does the UK have (the equivalent to dollar) stores? Here in North America, we can get a ball compass for a buck or two and stick it to the dash ... if the need is there.

I remember trying that years ago [before satnavs] and could never seem to get a reliable north direction. Presumably because of all the metal and electrics in a car? Does it work better these days as cars have more plastic and less metal?

Have you got a smartphone?

Lots of compass apps on these!

Are they not affected by the metal in the car then? They are based on the earth's magnetic field.

And why would you want another device to tell you the same thing as the TT used to do, but along with lots of other useful stuff, TT have removed from their devices.

Well, of course, you wouldn't if it wasn't a Tom Tom device and Tom Tom had a single brain cell between them!

I presume the OP wouldn't actually want to use a compass on a daily basis, would he?

My smartphone seems to work quite well as a compass when surrounded by PCs and things at work but I haven't tried it in the car. Worth a go though.

This may mean you should delay a purchase for a while?

OMG! The sun's gonna rise in the west and set in the east, except it'll be called east and west because everything will be upside down next year and Australia will be at the top and we'll all be hanging on like grim death. My built in Renault TomTom R-Link is already bad enough, now I'll have to turn left instead of right and go forward when possible. My dear old granny used to say the world's turning upside down, can't think why we need all these satellites and scientists to tell us the same thing. Stop the world, I want to get off!
