I've never really looked at Basecamp and whether I need it.

I use it a lot for route planning, both for my walking and also my long trips when on holiday or even within the UK. Easier to plan on a large screen than my GPS or satnav.

Ah right.

I tend to use MapPoint for basic planning but that's roads only. I then use the car built in job as that's quite good.

Walking ? Must investigate that one Very Happy

For walking maps, I use MemoryMap on the PC. The OS maps they sell are far and away cheaper than Garmin's ones for BaseCamp.

BaseCamp is useful for using your road maps on the PC.

For walking maps I use OSM maps ... which you can install into Basecamp. Far cheaper, as they're free, and more up to date than MemoryMap Very Happy
