Has any member got any advice or experience of the Spirit 697 Truck LM?

Would appreciate actual experiences rather than anecdotal.

Looking at the specs, this model appears impressive and now there is an update to the Spirit 6970 LM. Both use TA mapping.

Anyone actually KNOW what the differences are between the two?

The 697 is the current (2 year old) model

The latest (just released) is the 6970

If it states Truck it includes Truck Mode activated (worth about £70 extra) otherwise it can be added through the Unlock available to purchase in the Mio Store on any in the series

I would say the latest has best chance of being better hardware, otherwise probably very similar devices

If you buy a non-truck model, usually they come with a 30 day truck trial anyway

Many thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Think I'll go for the 6970 truck as that has a pedestrian mode along with the truck mode. Was considering the Tom-Tom 5150 Truck but this has attracted too many negatives to outweigh the positives.

The traffic will be far better on the TomTom, and the interface more modern

The Mio Navman on the other hand will be very clear and easy to use

Both use the same map data

Thanks again for the additional info. However, do you know if both use digital or analogue traffic receivers? Do both require subscriptions for traffic?

And, I believe that the TT has a active touch screen whilst the Mio has a resistive one. Do you know if this is correct?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but you do appear to know sat-navs!

You are right, Mio are resistive (although some say better for anti-glare, because not so reflective) and the latest TomTom capacitive

TomTom use a sim card, so the traffic is updated much more often, and is anyway much more accurate, with a far greater coverage

Mio traffic is the old style TMC

So if traffic is important, TomTom is the one to go for

If not, you could probably save quite a bit with the Mio - and they do give - for me - great routing
