My old 775 really due an upgrade and the screen in sunlight cant be seen thbe honest! (poor eyesight) any recomendations for a better sat nav with full europe mapping please...

does not need all the bells and whistles. but a decent size screen would be nice. must haves are: lane alert, 3rd party POI loading, and the ability to load routes from my PC via mapsource

Best thing you can do is visit somewhere like Halfords and ask to see the screens in operation.

Most recent nuvis will have lane assist and ability to add 3rd party POIs. Many also provide 'junction view'.

Mapsource has been replaced by Basecamp, but it can be made to work with the newer nuvis. Note though that 2 digit nuvis, eg 42/52, aren't able to use routes sent to them so avoid them.

For MapSource to see the latest nuvis, which are MTP devices, you need to set them to mass storage mode. To do so:

1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
3. The Developers Screen will pop up
4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
6. Shut down NUVI and connect to PC
7. It should now connect in mass storage mode.

As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "dashboard" screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen.

Hope that helps!

Basecamp has come a long way since last year though, I don't think I've touched MapSource in nearly a year Smile
