I want to buy Sygic for my iPad but it does not have a gps receiver in it. It's a wifi version only.
Sygic says that GPS information is modulated and sent to iPad when they are wireless paired. Is this true?

I opened GPS Status app on the iPad, turned hotspot on my iPhone and it reports my GPS location on the iPad. But is this true GPS information or is it just google location services being displayed?

If it is true GPS data being transferred from iPhone to iPad, I will buy Sygic for the iPad as it has a larger display otherwise I will just buy a stand alone GPS device.

Please let me know.

Tethering an iPad to an iPhone, as far as I am aware, also sends the GPS location.

If it was only using wifi location then the accuracy would be 100+ meters. GPS would bring that down to nearer 20m or less. Have you tried running GPS Status on the iPhone too and comparing the results on both without and with tethering?

Hi MaFt,

Doesn't seem to send the GPS location.
Yes, I am running GPS status on both, the iPad is tethered to the iPhone and the location is slightly different. It is not the same.

I reckon the iPad is using Wifi and cell tower locations services as there is a 100m blue circle around my location. The iPhone however does not have the circle, just a blue dot.

It's a pity GPS status does not report the difference.

Do you know if there are any apps out there that transfer GPS data from iPhone to iPad?
