| It doesn't appear as an available product on the TomTom UK website either |

That's why I wear varifocals - close up, intermediate and distance all in one lens. |

Tell your optician the distance to your dash instruments and he will issue an 'intermediate' prescription along with the normal distance/reading one. Your optician will be more than willing to make you a pair of distance/inter bifocals. I find that I can read OK through the inter part of the bifocals as long as the light is bright. The ground is not so far out of focus that it leaves me a bit disorientated as with those with reading bottom halves. I tried varies once and could not get on with the out of focus peripheral vision (I didn't go for the cheapest vari lenses either) |

I've been playing with one of these for a while, so any questions just ask...
To confirm, the screen is bigger AND higher resolution (800x480 pixel rather than 480x272 for the normal widescreen models), but so far none of that extra screen size is being used for anything clever... the display is exactly the same as the normal widescreen models - just a bit bigger.

Quite true, and because this model has the "integrated" mount, it is also even harder to get your hands round the back to attach the mount to your windscreen.
Apart from that though, I can see it being useful for those with steeply raked windscreens.
One thing I've not seen mentioned yet is that it has a motion sensor and will automatically flip the screen 180 degrees for dashboard mounting with the sucker at the bottom.
Unfortunately, I've found that (for me) if I am playing with it at my desk, that means the screen is almost always upside down!
Also, I can NEVER find the power switch, which is on the back - but might be at the top right or bottom left, depending on the screen rotation. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

So, Andy, is this a MUCH larger version of the Via Live with some differences? That also has the integrated mount and the motion sensor - or at least it flips the screen, but what it does not have is the higher resolution. _________________ Gee-Pee

It's larger, but doesn't really feel hugely so...
The 6" diagonal translates into about 5 1/8" by 3 1/8" while the 4.3" models we're all used to are 3 3/4" by 2 1/4"
I've not noticed the higher resolution looking that much better, I think it just compensates for the larger screen so the graphics don't look any blockier.
But having said that, it *is* a great-looking screen... very bright and clear and I have always preferred the resistive screens to the "better" capacitive ones. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Does the Mapshare function on this new model?
Does it/ can it switch on and off with the car ignition?
and... finally...
Does it offer multiple routes like the Go Live 1000s, or just the one?
Appreciate your help _________________ Navigon 92 Premium Live, TomTom 60 & 1000, Garmin 2545, 3790 & 2310, Mio Navman 689 & M610, Samsung Galaxy Note CoPilot Live, Route 66 & Sygic, Apple iPhone4 & iPad2 Navigon & Mio GPS Cradle |

Mapshare downloads still do not work on any of the new models -- including this one.
Yes, battery savings, 2nd page, settings to turn on when external power provided AND turn off when external power lost.
Believe it can handle 3 waypoints on a route but all new models do not include true itinerary planning like most Nav 2X models could. _________________ David

Thanks, but what I intended to ask was can you force it to create multiple route choices - ie. this way is 1hr 20ms, that way is 1hr 18ms and the other is 1hr 35ms for example - in case the route it initially chooses is not your preferred _________________ Navigon 92 Premium Live, TomTom 60 & 1000, Garmin 2545, 3790 & 2310, Mio Navman 689 & M610, Samsung Galaxy Note CoPilot Live, Route 66 & Sygic, Apple iPhone4 & iPad2 Navigon & Mio GPS Cradle |

You can choose alternate but route B will probably be longer than route A. _________________ David

| Would love a 6" tomtom with HD traffic etc. Hopefully it'll be on it's way soon. Bigger screens work so much better in MPVs where the device is some way from the driver. Even in my run around car where the TT is much closer I'd happily purchase a larger screen. Would really like to see an improved resolution which it sounds like there is. |

Me to, so treated myself to the TT Start 60 today for about £150 in Comet with the online reservation discount code (10GPS)
WOW the screen makes a huge difference - makes my TT Go Live 1000 look old, my 5" Garmin ancient
It really is a fantastic unit - excepting no Live services
Thought I would struggle with it being a Start edition when I'm used to the latest Go Live series, but with the exception of HD Traffic (which for most of my journeys - living in Wales - I can live without!) - it seems to have pretty much everyone that my Go Live has, but for a lower price and with this impressive screen - pin sharp and great in bright sunlight (between the cloud bursts) and sunglasses on today
If you can live without HD Traffic, its a bargain - otherwise a HD model is bound to be on the horizon for the UK? _________________ Navigon 92 Premium Live, TomTom 60 & 1000, Garmin 2545, 3790 & 2310, Mio Navman 689 & M610, Samsung Galaxy Note CoPilot Live, Route 66 & Sygic, Apple iPhone4 & iPad2 Navigon & Mio GPS Cradle |
