Just to give a a further update spoke with TomTom Support who having looked at all the problems I had with my Device agreed to change it for a new one. Sent me a rather complicated box to build to package it and off I sent it.
7 days later returned to me rattling around in a cardboard box with no protection was my old device with a letter stating they had re set to Factory Settings and all was ok? ( I could have done that ) Anyway contacted Support who then told me to try it for a week then go through all the same procedure of sending it again if not happy. Put my SD card back in and Computer voices gone again.
