Re the speeding debate, there are 2 points which spring to mind, firstly I believe that by law, car speedo's only have to be accurate within 10% either way. So surely if someone is nabbed for doing 33mph or less in a 30 limit, & their speedo shows 30mph that must be a good defence. Likewise up to 77mph on a dual carriageway.
secondly, in view of this the Association of Chief Police Officers recommended that prosecution should only be for 10% +3 mph over the limit. Has this now changed?

A car speedo can over-read by up to 10% but must not under-read. As a result, most over-read by somewhere around 3-5% to ensure they don't under-read.

At a true road speed of 30mph, this means that a speedo can show anything between 30 and 33mph.


The rules on tachographs are rather stricter.
