I have just had my French speed cam data removed on a TT device when I logged on to TT Home.
Can anyone confirm that this action is also being made by other manufactuers to conform to the new French legislation? _________________ Gee-Pee

Garmin have changed their Cyclops-based French camera database to one of the new "Dangerous Zones" databases, thus staying legal in France. |

I am planning my next trip to Spain and currently interested in this new law in france..
I was wondering what the difference was between danger zones and a gps camera database of exact location. - apologies ive not kept up with the gen.
What would the chances be when driving or going through the toll booths or the border crossing the cops would want to check every satnav or phone device going over it with a fine toothcoomb? Would they be looking for a usual poi set of names pocketgps or flits europa etc.
If they were called `churches` etc would that help put them off the scent?
I would have thought they be more interested in the reflectors I always fail to put on the car headlights!

The danger zones are much more vague. I don't know how Garmin are handling it, but TT are randomising the exact area covered so it won't be the same each time.
As for getting searched, I would guess it will be more likely to happen if you are stopped on the road. But I wouldn't take the chance... certainly not for a few months until we have some good reports on how zealous the Gendarmes are going to be.
But if *you* have thought of renaming them "churches" you can bet your life that *they* have too. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
