Hello all.
I have been a member on here for a couple of years, and download monthly updates to the speed cams for my old tom-tom unit.
However, I have just bought a 2005 Honda CR-V, and want to upgrade the stereo system, to include a built in double din satnav, dvd player etc.
The system I have looked at is the Eonon unit in this link :

http://www.eonon.co.uk/GPS%20Navigation/G2216E.html

My question is will I be able to update the speed cameras on this unit, as it does say in the specs that it accepts POIs etc.

As much as I would like an all singing all dancing unit, some of these are over £1000, which I can't afford, unfortunately.

Alternatively, could any-one recommend a (lower) cost double din stereo unit, with iPod capability, and sat nav which is speed camera update-able. or am I asking for too much.

Brilliant forum, and the speed cameras database has saved my bacon many times, so another thanks for that.

Thanks in advance,
Gary.

I have had a look at the device and can't get a handle on what the underlying SatNav software is. Have you tried asking the seller for more info?
It says that the 'maps' are on SD card (I presume this will be the whole of the navigation software), so it is possible that you will be able to do what you want, but, as I said before, you need to find out the maker of the underlying nav S/W before anyone can say categorically whether it can be done or not.

Looks like Sygic to me.

Quick search for 'G2216E' came up with this YouTube video that clearly shows it's running Sygic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQEryf7KFSE

This statement from Eonon also states it's legit:

As you know, Eonon always adopt legal map to our GPS, lately we have built long term relationship with Sygic, and it's already used in many of our existing units. Why we choose Sygic? Let's take a look at these awesome advantages of their map:....

It's difficult to tell from the tiny screenshot whether it is running the older Mobile Maps or the newer Aura. It doesn't LOOK like Aura so you should be OK. Having said that, Aura now supports 3rd party POIs (eg our speed cams) to some degree (no .ogg file support yet) but it depends if this unit has been updated or not.

Thank you all so much for the replies.
So, just to clarify, if this Eonon unit is running Sygic, which it appears to be doing, is there a database of speed cameras which I could use on it?

As a seperate question, if the maps etc are running off an SD card, would it be possible to use Tom Tom maps on it?
I have bought a legal SD card from TOM Tom with western european maps on it, or is that not possible?
I was looking for a double din DVD/CD/radio/GPS unit which was using tomtom, but cannot seem to find anything, apart from an older Sony system.
ANy-one know of such a beast?

Sorry, that was more than one question.

Many thanks again,
Gary.

Aura is no more - the name is Sygic GPS Navigation I understand, although the folder that it installs on my Android phone is still called Aura!

This is definitely not Aura or the new Sygic GPS Navigation. With both of those you do not tap on the screen to get the menu up (a la Tom Tom). Instead you tap in the bottom right corner of the Information bar or hit the menu button. And the icons for things like settings have now gone and been replaced by written lists.

I suspect this is based upon Mobile Maps, although what version is difficult to be sure. It is a few weeks since I stopped using Mobile Maps but it does not quite look like MM10. It could be MM9. In that case you should be able to use cameras and warnings.

The only problem is what software platform is it running on? That may make a difference.
