How can you/they be certain that it hasn't been fiddled with? If you can access it, you can 'fiddle' with it, so legally it would be about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. The person that I mentioned earlier tried a defence by 'fiddling' his TT records . It didn't work Shocked

For TT read Satnav. Like for Hoover read Hoover.

Surely it is possible to have Camera Alert create an encrypted file that cant be fiddled with (Read only). I've looked into GPS Visualizer and successfully created a map with colour coded track - have yet to work out if times can also be displayed. The present version is in KM/h ( 0, 24.7, 49.3, 74.0, 98.6) which is quite useful but not perfect.

The track log speed data is in meters (metres) per second.

Yes - I understand that. Conversion simple - 60 MPH = 26.8224 M/s

Speed KM/h to MPH

98.6 = 61.26
74 = 45.98
49.3 = 30.60
24.7 = 15.00

Track Colour changes as you go up through each level so its easy to see where you exceed 30 mph & 60 mph.

I believe that Lutz said that the track log is in M/Sec so why would you want to convert KPH to MPH? I,m fairly certain that Lutz has the required skills to convert M/Sec to MPH, but why would he want to in CA? After all, it's a Camera Alert not a 'try to get you off the hook if your caught speeding' piece of S/W. Surely there is an app to do what only you seem to want it to do without adding even more complications to CA.

Sorry about this as I have often berated others who want to see additions to CamerAlert which I think is already a perfect app.

However, I run CamerAlert in the background but would really like to see a map of the camera location when I am close to it. Any chance that the "Show Map When Near" option could bring CamerAlert from the background to the foreground when approaching a camera and then return to the background when the threat has passed?

While it is technically possible to replace the current popup with one showing the map rather than the text, it would not be very useful. While the app is in the background the map is dormant, so any new map requests would only be served after a considerable timeout, long enough to be obsolete when finally shown.

I have a geocaching app on my HTC Desire HD (c:geo which allows me to select from differing map sources. These include Google Maps and Open Street Maps.

More importantly it allows me to store a downloaded OSM map covering a chosen area. This area could be regional or national, even the whole UK.

The FAQ is here detailing how to create and use an offline map.

Is it possible for this functionality to be added to CamerAlert? I already have maps on my device for Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland so pointing CamerAlert towards these maps would be advantageous. Once the map has been created it can be made available to all.

c:geo is a free app so would there be some licensing issues using Open Source data in a paid for app? You would not be providing the map data, just the ability to use it.

Many Thanks and Happy New Year to all

The CA app is free Very Happy It's the camera data that you pay for Rolling Eyes Whether that would hold any water or not is a different question, but any maps on your device are for personal use, aren't they??

Hence the argument that PGPSW is not suppling the map, just the facility to use your own maps

Getting the map tiles is not actually the problem. The real challenge is the marker management - the icons you see on the map. So ideally we would want to keep the Googely marker engine and only swap the tile provider, but that is not currently supported.
