on the forum index page click on the link that says "view posts since last visit"

or, if you use firefox, simply type "pocket newposts" into the awesome bar and it will bring up the link from your history.

That was the point, I couldn't find it!
But I've seen it now, over on the right.

Any reason why it couldn't go back in the 'Forums' drop-down menu box though. IT WAS there wasn't it? Or am I going mad?

not got one of those... or if it's the normal location bar, it didn't work.

Anyway I thought you'd gone to get drunk?!

yes, it was there! however, one of the aims of simplyfying navigation is to only have 1 link. i.e. all the left-column links were duplicates of the main menu navigation which caused confusion. i presume removing 'new posts' from the drop-down fell under a similar 'rule'? darren? basically, we're trying to declutter the menu's and, seeing as the 'new posts' link is always shown on the forum index page it's not really needed in the main navigation menu.

Laughing Out Loud. when mozilla released firefox 3 they changed the location bar. it wasn't just for url's - it became your search bar for favourites, bookmarks, history etc etc. as such they dubbed it 'the awesome bar' Very Happy

Hmm.. any chance of making an exception? Confused

The way I use it is to pick a topic from the new posts list, read it and then go straight back to the new posts list for the next one. No need to go through the index page every time.
If it can only be in one place I'd prefer it in the drop-down!

I thought I remembered that from somewhere...

So I pasted "pocket newposts" into it and all I get is a Google search results page for "pocket newposts" where the first two hits are for forums.thoughtsmedia.com and www.smartphonemag.com Crying or Very sad

Buy more beer!

Is it not possible to have the menus on each page:

View posts since last visit

View unanswered posts

That is not an option in the version of phpBB that we use.

But we did use to have "View posts since last visit", didn't we? (in the "Forums" drop down at the very top)....
I've always, and still do, only found it at the top of http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=index which is my first port of call after Login.

Or am I missing something else? Embarassed

Or you could do as I do, and have a Bookmark for 'PGPS New Posts' on my browser toolbar

How do we create that now though, if there's nowhere to click?

Andy, In case you cant wait until next Techno-Thursday, the missing link is http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=search&search_id=newposts (I do hope that is not a link to my account!), once that page has loaded, click and drag the small icon which is to the left of the address in the Navigation Pane onto your Bookmarks Toolbar. Right click and edit the title to "New Posts" or whatever else you fancy calling it.

I know Darren has said that things are "Locked In" now, but I have always wanted to see the Date that a topic was started as well as the Author. Date, Time and Author are provided in the "Last Post" pane so presumably it's possible.

EDIT _ Ooops! Just realised that there is a second page to this topic. Sorry for going off at a bit of a tangent in my reply. Embarassed

I have added that once again for convenience.

I open the New Posts page, then open each new post I'm interested in, in a new tab. Works for me.

That is a phpBB thing, we're concerned with the main site layout and navigation for now. phpBB is another matter entirely. We can look at this later and see what is and isn't possible.

open 'new posts' page once. middle click each new post you want to read and it will open in a new tab. if you don't have a middle mouse button then right-click and open in new tab. even quicker than going back to the new posts page every time and risking something going funny and it clearing itself!

Brilliant, thank you. Love you lots! Love it

I know... there are so many different ways to do things, but as you get older you seem to find it harder to break out of the rut.

Months ago, I was even amazed to see my son double-click on some text to select a whole word, and I've been trying to remember to do it ever since, but I still find myself selecting by click-and-dragging all the time. Rolling Eyes

Much better! I've not been on for a couple of days so I've missed the development phase but the site is now faster, easier to navigate and looks clearer. Well done!

Cos IE doesn't support CSS3 border-radius yet.

How did I know that you were going to blame poor old Bill? It's his ball, so he can play what he wants. Unfortunately it seems that he can't keep up. Very Happy
