I noticed tonight that if you connect your phone to itunes, under devices click on your phone then go to the apps tap. In the apps tap scroll down ( using very right hand bar) and you will see a file sharing list.

In this list is co pilot and you can then see all the files and folders that co pilot contains. It is possible to easily add files to co pilot from here.

My question is , can I add POIs and if so how?

ah, this must be a new feature of copilot. you could try adding some csv or ov2 files in there and see if it 'integrates' them when the app launches? i'll try it later on - nice find!

been playing a bit with this. i don't think it is possible...

you can't open the folders (even though you can save them to your computer and see the contents) and you would normally need to put the ov2/csv files in the 'save' folder within the map/country folder (eg EU/save). as there is no way to copy a folder into the app there is no way to get the file in the right place.

i've tried editing the user.cfg to change the folders for the save files etc but that didn't work Sad

i've no idea why ALK have added this feature!!

having said that:

only iTunes is unable to open folders. using an iphone disk utility (i use DiskAid - cost me $10 i think) you have full access to these files/folders without the need to jailbreak.

copy either the ov2 file (or the csv file) to: UK\EU\uk_ireland\save
[where the first 'UK' is the name of the app under 'Applications']

then run copilot on the iphone. it will detect new POI set and allow you to add it as a new category or merge with an existing one. you can also choose an icon (though it doesn't look like you can add your own). it will ask if you are importing speed cameras too for ov2 files. adding the copilot 8 csv speed cam download from PGPSW will be detected as speed cameras and not ask you.

if you need to delete a poi set you can go to: UK\EU\uk_ireland\save\user_places and delete the relevant folder.

adding more than one set of the csv files at a time messes up (as always with copilot) so simply add them one at a time, start copilot, quit copilot, add files, start copilot etc. the csv files are directional.

to stop copilot installing it's own database just delete the poi_uk.safetycam_8.2010xxxxxxxxx.ezp file from the 'UK\EU\uk_ireland\save' directory and the 'poi_uk.safetycam' folder from user_places. you may also need to remove the ezp file(s) from UK\save too (you can also add the POIs to this folder but you still need to go to the country-specific foler to remove etc).

however, annoyingly, the CP speed cam data downloads itself when you launch CP8 so next time you start it install (integrates) so you get duplicate warnings...

i can't find a way to stop CP8 auto-downloading the ezp file either...

ok, here's a rather inelegant solution to rid you of CP's own speed camera data.

in the 'poi_uk.safetycam' folder simply delete the 'poi.inf' file. this will give an alert on launch saying the data is corrupt and do you want to delete it. press 'no' twice and it doesn't re-integrate their data. you need to press 'no' on every launch though. pressing 'yes' will re-integrate their data straight away.

by the way, to check what speed camera files are installed do the following:

destination / points of interest / nearby / more categories / safety cameras

if it says 'poi_uk.safetycam' in the list then you have CP's database installed still.

so, there you have it - PGPSW speed cams and POIs on a non-jailbroken iPhone!

slight bug in CP8 though in that every time your direction changes very slightly (eg the road bends a little) you get a repeated 'warning safety camera' announcement!!

at least this stops it from missing 'new' cameras as you drive round a sharp corner!

Nice work MaFt.

So what do we need to do to persuade TomTom to offer this capability?

I'll write to their support people but doubt if that will be enough.

Believe me, we have tried, they aren't listening.
