Hi I'm after a sat nav for car use and cycling.

For the car use it must have speed camera warnings

(with update capabilities) - traffic warnings if

pos.

Now on the cycling mode it must have cycling

mapping or off road mapping. A lot of sat navs

have both car mode and cycle mode but don't have

adequate off road mapping which is frustrating!

If there is a good car sat nav with cycle lanes as

well then this would be perfect! But i would

settle for off road mapping if not

Does anyone know of such a device?

Thanks in Advance
Andy

The only solution I can think of is a PocketPC running Memory-Map for off-road and any one of a dozen possible on-road solutions.

There are no combined on/off-road solutions currently available. Memory-map used to have a RoadAngel device that combined the two but it wasn't great and I can't see it on their web site any more.

Plenty of waterproof cases that would fit a PocketPC, Brodit even have a case designed for fitting to a handlebar.

I use a phone (Sony Erricson C702) for everything. It's a "Jack of all trades, master of none", but suits me perfectly.

Plenty of online companies can provide most of the mapping features you want for a fee. Personally, being the cheapskate I am, I use opensource maps (openstreetmap) and software (gpsmid) for navigation, and Mapnav and downloaded topo maps for off road. I (rarely) back these up with online mapping if the above don't cover what I need.

I believe Buyinig hardware and/or software is the most expensive way to get navigation, given map upgrade costs and initial outlay, a few quid a week is a bargin, and it's getting cheaper every day. Check out Nokia - it's free.
