pocketgpsworld.comGarmin and Volkswagen have partnered to offer an integrated mount solution for Garmin's nuvi 7x5 range of SatNav devices.

Dubbed 'Click & Ride', the solution consists of a custom mount that has to be installed by a Volkswagen Partner. This entails connection to power and the vehicle audio system.

Designed to be retro-fitted by dealers to both new and used vehicles, the mount has passed the stringent approvals process of Volkswagen and ensures it is located in the bottom left hand corner of the windscreen (for LHD) and right hand corner (RHD).

The installation of the mount results in a semi-permanent installation but importantly, it can be removed if you change vehicles and without damage. This resolves the big issue with factory fit systems that can cost £2000+ yet lack the features of the better PND's and cannot be transferred between vehicles.

Once installed, all cabling is neatly hidden from view and an optional Bluetooth hands-free kit is also available.

Navigation instructions are played through the vehicle's audio system complete with radio muting and all the standard features of a nuvi 7x5 are present.

Not really. This is a budget solution that allows you to add AND remove the option at low cost. A dash system would not permit this.

Looks very much like the system they have with Volvo. Lets just hope VW are better than Volvo. I have a C30 for which Volvo offer a dealer fit kit. But 3 emails to dealers, 1 direct to Volvo and not a single reply, and that was months ago.

The Volvo installation is better than the VW. If only they would like to tell you how much it is.

Have a look HERE (opens in a new window).

I don't see the Volvo system looks a lot different? As for the comment about it being a 'mess'. It's a whole lot better than when stuck to the windscreen with the power cord dangling across the dash surely?

The sticking point will be the cost. OEM stuff is never cheap and I'll bet the hour minimum for fitment will make it a far from cheap option. Assuming £60-70 for the mount and another £80 for the install I'd look at other options and a decent local car stereo installer for fitment.

Go and look at whats available from Brodit rather than wasting money on something that has a VW of Ovlov badge on it, you will get a better solution with more options to choose from - Mike

On the VW pictures the leads are dangling across the dash behind the unit. The Volvo leads go into the dash under the mount. I even have the Volvo fitting guide in pdf format. But some special tools are required to remove various items on the dash without leaving marks all over them.

Ah I see, fair point. I haven't been able to ascertain which VW models this solution is available for nor price.

Won't we get problems with thieves knowing we have a removable sat nav.

I always remove my mount.

Since I got the tomtom 520 to replace my old navman 635 I can put the tomtom down low behind the ashtray lid. No mount needed. Navman wouldn't get a signal.

Well it'll work with a 760 yes, as to which specific vehicles and model years, you'd have to speak to Volkswagen as their is scant info on this product as yet.

not really, i always take my unit with me.........leaving anything of value inside the car (boot or glove box) is risky. as for mount showing, don't think that would be an incentive to break in...as the majority of people now have a sat nav anyway....just take unit with you, not as though they are massive, slips into my jean pocket.
