pocketgpsworld.comGot any pictures of mobile speed camera vans or mobile GATSO's? We'd like to see them. We're looking to expand our recognition guides so we can assist you in recognising 'what's what' so to speak and I'll be creating a recognition guide in the New Year.

We're also interested to see what you think are perhaps poorly sighted cameras, or locations intentionally positioned so that the cameras are obscured by road signage, hedges, trees etc. We've all seen pictures of camera vans parked on double yellow lines, perched on the pavement etc. Seen one hidden in a horse-box? Disguised as a builders van? No? Well they have both been used so you never know what they will be disguised as next!

You can post them in this thread or email them to camerasATpocketgpsworld.com and we'll post them on your behalf.

The best picture submitted by Christmas Eve will win a prize so grab your cameras and get snapping.

" perhaps poorly sighted cameras" won't work very well if they only "see" poorly. Sorry Darren!

Nothing special Mobile 10911@30 in Blackpool, probably the most used location for a mobile camera within the Fylde area and always illegally parked:

I know a few people that have been caught out by this local spot, but the fact the van is parked on the pavement....... - Mike

On a pavement and within 10m of a junction, facing the opposite direction to traffic on a dual-carriageway.......

Well, I can't see how any ticket issued by that van is enforceable.
Do they have an exemption from the local authority or something?

Evil or Very Mad
Evil people...and worse than just a £60 tax. I agree 100% with road safety but this is not the right way to go about it.

So beware of bridges above the M6 in Cumbria as the speed camera vans have little visibility and adore non peak hours. At peak time too many cars exist with little gap to read number plates over a 10 sec timeframe. But at 8am on a weekend these are the highest risk times as you are a sitting duck. Either you wont see the van at all, or it will be too late. They choose the best bridges to see the M6 from half a mile either side and focus onto your car.

On a Monday in Oct 08 there were 2 vans within about 20 miles in the late afternoon. One van was above roadworks as the probability of earning money will be far greater. Laughing

Some quotes from their website:

"Weekly Schedules
Please note that as from June 1 2007 Cumbria Safety Cameras will not be publishing schedules for safety camera operations. "

However the marketing slogan used to be that cameras will be published as they want to be open and transparent. Cool Decide for yourself if they are fair or hide behind secrecy and subterfuge.

Seen plenty of photos on the web, but I guess they're all copyright of other sites.

Best I can manage is this one. Not a camera van at all though.
