I seem to have developed a problem after upgrading and wondered if anyone else had come across this.

I upgraded to 8.3 and then used my 720 all day today for deliveries.

I only use 1 voice, the Kate UK comp, and she has started breaking up like Norman Collier used to do. When this happened i quickly deleted the voice off the unit and my PC then reloaded via home. I also decided to add another for comparison so added the USA Dave comp. Now both work the vast majority of the time, but then start breaking up and even seeming to stop mid word then start again.

It has only happened today, since i loaded the 8.3 late yesterday.

I have kind of discounted a loose connection on the speaker as the voice seems to stop mid word sometimes, the start again, and a loose connection would just miss what was said.

So my question, has anyone experianced this?

Hopefully i'll get time to try downloading 8.3 again tomorrow to see if i got a bad download.

Any other suggestion?

Incidently i did try pin resets after changing voices etc.

My go720 is stuttering REAL BAD...after the oficial update 8.300.Especially with long names...Susan stop in the middle of the word, then says two more syllables then stop again...and finally finishes after 20 SECONDS....Same problem like yours...and i have only 12.7 Mb RAM free.....

Same here, it is the long names that get problems. For example I have Post Offices listed in the poi, when it warns it goes something like 'Community Post Office 350 yards'. The Community is quick and garbled, the rest is OK.

Likewise when I was using the TT onboard voice to warn of cameras from PGPSW, and for example arning of a 30mph Gatso, that would be a long old string as well. Starting with 'PGPSW Gatso speed limit 30miles per hour, 400 yards'. Or very similar, the PGPSW gatso would be very quick and garbled the rest OK.

However, now I am using the PGPSW sound pack with the camera set it is all OK.
The problem remains with some of the POIs however, I have not been able to rest all of them, but am wondering how things Motorway services will come out.

I updated to v8.3 last night. I usually use a real voice, but swapped to a TTS voice to check it was working and it SEEMED all right on a short demo route.
Don't forget you can run demo routes past any POI to check your warnings (of any type) are working OK. I'm just trying an experiment of assigning a TTS alert to a motorway services and running a demo route past one of those.

Thanks guys.

Just to be sure, did either unit show these signs before the 8.3 upgrade?

Anyone else suffering, any ideas?

I've just done a demo past Heston Services with "Full spoken alert" selected.

It said "Motorway service area nought point two miles." followed by: "next opportunity 300 yards" (which came as a surprise - clever if it wasn't the westbound ones!!)
All speech was clear and un-garbled.

Same here Kate is cracking up!. I have also noticed if you try and delete a POI it brings up the map and ask's you to press back or dial? but no delete. I pressed the dial button and this indeed deletes the POI. I have not tried this if the POI has a telephone number associated with it. Will it delete the POI or Dial the POI telephone number I wonder? Rolling Eyes

Anyone else experienced this?

My 520 with Male computer voice is doing the same

"Car t on road" rather than "Carlton Road" for example..

I used it in demo mode at 300% indoors also playing music and it was fine...

It's only bad when it is navigating Smile

Audio out volume from AUX is so MUCH louder also - I thought my radio was going to blow up!

It's a shame they don't test the new software before releasing it....

Yes I spotted that "schoolboy error" of a bug! I reported it to TomTom last night and they've added it to the list... Wink

Guys,

Can you confirm the voice problem as only occured after the 8.3 update?

Just for the record, mine doesn't seem to be a particular location, so it doesn't pay to run demo. The problem is intermitent although it does seem to be the longer phrases that it is having the problem with.

In my case I can confirm it happened after the update to v 8.300.

I travel regularly to March Cambridgeshire.

Before update Kate would announce
Go right on roundabout 3rd exit towards MARCH

After update
Go right on roundabout 3rd exit towards MARK

Yes.after the 8.300 update....Before that it was perfect...copy and paste from another forum:

Funny is that IT DOESN'T STUTTER in DEMO mode....Only in "real life"...As you can see in demo mode the speed slows down at instruction and the map slows down either on the screen....But when i'm driving i dont slow down at instruction and the map move rapidly on the screen...and it stutters REAL BAD..

Try setting it not to read out the road names which is an option within the speech preferences (make sure the bosx isn't ticked) then try it agin when next out on the road, I have found it less prone to this issue with the read aloud road names de-selected, not ideal, but it is easier on the ears - Mike

Doesn't that sort of negate the functionality of Computer voices? Not saying the street names?

dhn, I am not saying this is the answer to the problem, only that turning off this feature gets rid of the stuttering and still provides a navigation device that works - I would sooner have clear instructions rather than trying to deceipher what the device is trying to spit out.
For the time being I have turned this off when running 8,3 but I have it switched on when booting from an SD card with 8,010 installed as this doesn't suffer the same issue (you also need the v810 map on the card for this trick to work) - Mike
