Company: Telmap (http://www.telmap.com)

Release summary: Telmap, the world leader in mobile location solutions, today announced that it is delivering an advanced navigation and location based service for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) based on the Intel® Atom™ processor and Linux-based Moblin platform.

Telmap Enters Mobile Internet Device Market Segment with Advanced Navigation and Location Services

LONDON – February 12, 2009 – Telmap, the world leader in mobile location solutions, today announced that it is delivering an advanced navigation and location based service for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) based on the Intel® Atom™ processor and Linux-based Moblin platform.
As a leading authority in mobile location services, Telmap is embracing the MID category to bring rich navigation and location based services to mobile users. This announcement further highlights Telmap’s multi-platform approach to devices and the addition of Linux to its extensive list of supported OS platforms.

The Intel Atom processor delivers high performance at dramatically lower power while delivering a compelling Internet experience for MIDs. MIDs are expected to support always-on connectivity, high-resolution displays and touch-screen interfaces, which make them ideally suited for advanced search, mapping and navigation solutions.

“As the need for mobility and always-on internet connectivity take a firmer grip on our society, the extension of our business to support the MID category was clearly a natural step for Telmap”, says Oren Nissim, CEO of Telmap. “We see MIDs as another great platform that will drive a more connected and location-aware society. The high performance of the Intel Atom processor will support our technology requirements, and in turn will provide an advanced user experience in mobile navigation and location technologies.”

“Mobile Internet Devices are ideally suited to deliver real-time Internet-based navigation and location based services on the go,” said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs in the Ultra Mobility Group at Intel Corporation. “The high performance and visual capabilities of MIDs enabled by the Intel Atom processor, combined with Telmap’s expertise in navigation and location services, will make it easier to bring these experiences to people.”

Combining its advanced search features, Telmap can provide live, location-aware and real time information to any user in-car or on foot. Its technology has been chosen by leading industry players in Europe (Orange FT Group, Vodafone, SFR, The Carphone Warehouse and O2), in North America (AOL MapQuest, Sprint, ATT), and in Africa (Vodacom).
Telmap will unveil and demonstrate Mobile Internet Devices running its Telmap Navigator application at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the Telmap stand (Hall 1, 1E02) and at the Intel stand (Hall 8, 8B109).

Garmin-Asus Introduces nüvifone™ M20

BARCELONA, Spain/February 12, 2009/Business Wire — Garmin-Asus, a co-branded alliance between Garmin® Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), and ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (TAIEX: 2357), today announced the Garmin-Asus nüvifone M20, an all-in-one phone, mobile web-browser and premium navigation system with a Windows Mobile operating system. The Garmin-Asus nüvifone M20 will be on display at GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, February 16-19, 2009, at the Garmin-Asus exhibit (Hall 7, #7C37).

As the first Garmin-Asus nüvifone powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with enterprise email, the sleek and colorful nüvifone M20 is designed for on-the-go professionals who want a fashionable and functional smartphone to manage their busy work and personal lives. This powerful device combines a dual-band 3.5G/tri-band GSM phone with Wi-Fi connectivity, desktop-like internet browser, push email, document viewing, multi-media capability, Bluetooth® and Garmin sat nav.

The nüvifone M20’s full QWERTY soft keyboard makes it easy to send and receive SMS, MMS and emails. The nüvifone M20 can also be synched with a computer so that contacts and emails are always available. HSDPA wireless connectivity and enterprise grade Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) ensure messages are sent and received quickly, including those with attachments.

Recognizing that location is relevant to every aspect of every day, the nüvifone M20 is designed with location based services (LBS) at its core and has the most advanced LBS experience of any Windows Mobile phone. Navigation functions are linked to frequently used applications such as calendar, contacts, email, internet applications and more, simplifying the nüvifone user’s day as they travel from one location to another.

The nüvifone M20 supports download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and offers a desktop-style web browsing experience. Users can zoom and pan web pages with their finger as they view the information in either portrait or landscape orientation. In addition, they can easily navigate to an address on a web page with only a few taps of the screen.

The GPS features of the nüvifone M20 usher in a level of sophistication never seen before on a Windows Mobile smartphone. It has the navigation capability of a premium Garmin nüvi® sat nav, and comes with preloaded maps and points of interest (POIs) – hotels, restaurants, stores, fuel stations and more – for North America, Eastern and Western Europe, or other regions. Selecting a destination is straightforward and requires limited input from the user. For example, users can search for a destination by typing in the specific name or address of an establishment, search by category, or navigate to addresses in the nüvifone M20’s contact database or on the web. The device then gives turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions and automatically recalculates if a turn is missed along the way. In addition, the nüvifone includes quick access to online points of interest through internet enabled local search. The nüvifone harnesses the power of the worldwide web and information about local merchants and attractions is continually updated.

The nüvifone M20 takes GPS navigation one step further via Connected Services, a suite of online applications and data from Garmin-Asus that adds location intelligence to navigation, phone and browser functions. The expandable list of applications includes content like real-time traffic information, White Pages, weather, flight status, local events, and movie times.

The nüvifone product line also includes Ciao!™, a ground-breaking LBS application that helps users stay up to date on their friends’ whereabouts and status by linking numerous location-centric social networks. Through Ciao!, nüvifone users will see their friends’ location on a map and then be able to navigate to that location with ease. Nüvifone users can also choose to have the nüvifone automatically update their social network location information.

The nüvifone M20 has exceptional entertainment capabilities with the combination of a 2.8” TFT touch lens display, built-in microphone and speakers, built-in 4Gb/8Gb My Storage, and ActiveSync® for Outlook®, Microsoft® Office, and multi-media synchronization. The VGA (640x480) display brings action to life when watching video or looking at photographs. The three megapixel camera automatically geotags images with the exact latitude and longitudinal coordinates. Users can then save the image on their phone, email it to a friend, or navigate to where the image was taken.

Garmin-Asus expects to announce the nüvifone M20’s pricing and availability information in the first half of 2009. Journalists should contact Garmin-Asus media representatives to arrange product demonstrations or interviews. Additional information about the nüvifone product line is available at www.GarminAsus.com.

Research and Markets: Factual Report on LBS Platforms and Technologies
DUBLIN, Ireland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets

(http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/a6303a/lbs_platforms_and) has announced the addition of Berg Insight AB's new report "LBS Platforms and Technologies" to their offering.

Who should buy this report?
LBS Platforms and Technologies is the foremost source of information about this market in Europe. Whether you are a vendor, telecom operator, investor, consultant, application developer or government agency, you will gain valuable insights from our in-depth research.

Executive Summary:

Mobile location-based services are services that in some way utilise the geographic location of a handset, either to enhance existing applications, or enable new applications. Countless consumer and corporate services that make use of automatic location of handsets or other assets have been launched in Europe. Location platforms typically comprise several enabling servers and software extensions to network infrastructure components that together can calculate the position of a handset and mediate the data to a querying application. Many mobile operators also deploy middleware platforms, or location-enabling servers. The middleware functions as a mediator between the location platform, applications and support systems, and more importantly, provides centralised control of privacy settings for all applications.

Location technologies can be divided into handset-based technologies, like GPS, with intelligence in the handset, network-based technologies, such as Cell-ID, with intelligence in the network and hybrid technologies, for instance A-GPS, with intelligence in the handset and the network. Handset-based and hybrid technologies often require additional hardware and software in the handset, while network-based technologies require deployment of hardware and software in the mobile network.

Demand for location platforms is increasing in Europe, as more operators need to comply with E112 mandates and end-users show a growing interest in commercial location services. Although GPS in general and the user plane SUPL A-GPS standard in particular receive much of the attention along with the growing number of A-GPS handsets being introduced, network-based location methods are also experiencing an upswing. Emergency services and many commercial services need to be able to locate any handset and therefore favor network-based methods. Moreover, A-GPS services also need fallback methods when a GPS fix is unobtainable. Berg Insight forecasts total annual revenues in Europe for mobile location platforms, including A-GPS servers and middleware platforms, to grow from about euro 17 million in 2008 to euro34 million in 2014. These revenues comprise setup fees and licenses for new platform deployments and capacity and technology upgrades, maintenance and associated services, in addition to GPS data feeds.

Garmin-Asus nüvifone™ Product Line on Display at Mobile World Congress
Garmin-Asus Announces nüvifone G60 Specifications

Mobile World Congress 2009
BARCELONA, Spain--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Garmin-Asus, a co-branded alliance between Garmin® Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN) and ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (TAIEX: 2357), will feature the Garmin-Asus nüvifone product line at its co-branded exhibit at GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, February 16-19, 2009 (Hall 7, #7C37). The Garmin-Asus nüvifone product line currently includes the newly announced nüvifone M20 and nüvifone G60.

The Garmin-Asus nüvifone product line represents a significant step forward in location based service (LBS) technology and offers a superior and innovative value proposition for those seeking an all-in-one, LBS-centric phone, mobile web-browser and personal navigator. Although every Garmin-Asus nüvifone has LBS at its core, each device has unique characteristics because they’re designed for specific audiences. The nüvifone G60 is designed for the active on-the-go user who wants an easy-to-use device and appreciates the peace of mind that comes from a device that answers common questions like “Where am I?,” “Where am I going?” and “How do I get home?”

The quad-band GSM nüvifone G60 with 3.5G was designed for high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) networks and supports Wi-Fi for fast data connections. When used on a HSDPA network, the nüvifone G60 has the ability to download files at a fast transfer speed that makes internet searches and downloading large files a breeze.

The nüvifone G60 has a large 3.55-inch display that features three primary icons – “Call,” “Search,” and “View Map.” Secondary icons appear on the side of the home screen and can be organized by the user’s preference. Customers can easily scroll through the icons by swiping their finger across the large touchscreen display, and a built-in accelerometer allows every screen to be viewed in either portrait or landscape orientation.

The nüvifone G60 was developed with an LBS-centric design philosophy. Location information is added to everyday applications including email, SMS, photo sharing, social networking and more in order to enhance applications and share location information with others.

Navigation is at the heart of the nüvifone G60. The nüvifone G60’s sat nav operates like a Garmin nüvi® with preloaded maps of North America or Eastern and Western Europe, and has millions of points of interest (POIs) including hotels, restaurants and street addresses. The POIs can be easily accessed for turn-by-turn voice prompted directions. If a turn is missed along the route, the nüvifone G60 automatically recalculates a route and gets the user back on track. In addition, the nüvifone includes quick access to online points of interest through internet enabled local search. The nüvifone harnesses the power of the worldwide web and information about local merchants and attractions is continually updated.

Users can also supplement the POI data with LBS-centric applications from Connected Services, a suite of online applications and dynamic relevant data from Garmin-Asus that adds location intelligence to navigation, phone and browser functions. The expandable list of applications and content includes real-time traffic information, White Pages, weather, flight status, local events, and movie times.

The nüvifone G60 features an advanced mobile HTML web browser. Users can surf the web on their phone via Wi-Fi or 3G networks, and the information is presented similar to a PC browser. The nüvifone G60 supports POP3 and IMAP4 email such as Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail. The touchscreen soft keyboard is customizable to QWERTY or A to Z, making it easy to send and receive messages. The nüvifone G60 also includes predictive text to help prevent typing errors.

The LBS-centric nature of the nüvifone G60 shines through when using the three megapixel camera with auto-focus. The camera automatically geotags images with an exact latitude and longitude reference of where the image was taken. The user may then save the image so they can navigate back to the location, or email the geo-tagged image to others. The nüvifone also provides direct access to millions of geo-located landmark and sightseeing photographs available through Google’s Panoramio picture sharing site. The Panoramio photos are searchable and are sorted by the distance from the current location.

Although cell phones have long been considered an important device for safety, the nüvifone G60 takes it one step further by allowing individuals to place calls and identify their exact GPS location while making a phone call. With one touch of the screen during a phone call, the “Where am I?” features tells users their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, nearest address, intersection, hospital, police station and gas station. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or crowded parking lot, the nüvifone G60 automatically marks the position in which it was last removed from the windshield mount.

Garmin-Asus expects to announce the nüvifone G60’s pricing and availability in the first half of 2009. Journalists should contact Garmin-Asus media representatives to arrange product demonstrations or interviews. Additional information about the nüvifone product line is available at www.GarminAsus.com.

Tele Atlas Uses Consumer Input to Add, Adjust Roads in Map Database, Marking a First for Digital Map Making

Shared community feedback gives more complete view of road network worldwide, faster path to fresher maps

‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, — Tele Atlas, a leading global provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location-based solutions, continued to advance digital map making today with the availability of the first map database to contain new and adjusted roads based on feedback from map users.

Tele Atlas® MultiNet 2009.02 is the basis for some of the world’s most used navigation devices and wireless, LBS and enterprise applications. It now contains new roads, as well as roads with adjusted geometry, detected or verified in part using real world GPS measurements on thousands of roads from TomTom Map Share customers. Map Share technology allows consumers to make instant corrections to maps directly on TomTom devices and to share information about their changes and routes to help improve the freshness of maps for all Tele Atlas map users.

“Community input allows Tele Atlas to quickly and automatically see what’s happening across all areas of our database to pinpoint places where changes to the road network may be needed,” said Tele Atlas Vice President of Research and Development Rob van Essen. “Once we verify such feedback through our many other sources or through field tests, we can add them to our database far faster than traditional means have ever allowed.”

To update its maps, Tele Atlas captures and verifies changes from more than 50,000 global sources, ranging from government documents and public safety officials to construction companies and truck drivers, as well as satellite and aerial imagery. By validating and adding contributions from individual drivers as an additional source, Tele Atlas is able to increase the total number of changes identified by its network, particularly in geographically dispersed and rural areas covered less frequently by other data sources. The launch of MultiNet 2009.02 follows the company’s first database release incorporating community-provided changes in October 2008.

Images highlighting community input based on GPS measurements can be viewed at http://www.teleatlaspresskit.com. Rx Networks Launches Secure User Plane Assisted-GPS Data Service
Network agnostic, standards-compliant and lightweight assistance data service to enhance GPS acquisition performance for any SUPL-enabled mobile device

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 12, 2009) - Rx Networks Inc., a leading Assisted-GPS (A-GPS) technology and global services company, today announced the availability of its GPStreamTM Secure User Plane 1.0 Light Edition (SUPL 1.0 LE) data service. The solution enables any SUPL 1.0 A-GPS compliant device to receive real-time GPS assistance and rapidly determine its position even under weak signal conditions. The GPStream SUPL LE service provides cost effective and fast GPS Time-To-First-Fix performance for mobile handset manufacturers, Location-Based Services providers and enterprise customers. Nokia continues to increase cost-efficiency and adapt operations to market situation

Nokia plans to close the Jyväskylä site and concentrate mobile devices R&D in Finland at Tampere, Oulu, Salo and the Helsinki metropolitan area

Nokia plans to scale down Salo production with temporary lay-offs to align with market demand - operations continue uninterrupted

As part of its previously announced plans to increase cost-efficiency and adapt to the market situation, Nokia today announced plans to close its mobile devices R&D site in Jyväskylä, concentrating mobile devices R&D in Finland at its sites in Tampere, Oulu, Salo and the Helsinki metropolitan area. Nokia also plans to scale down Salo production with staggered temporary lay-offs, aligning production with market demand while continuing operations without interruption. Nokia will begin consultations with employee representatives about these plans.

Ramping down R&D in Jyväskylä

Nokia's operations in Jyväskylä focus mainly on mobile device product development and marketing. Nokia plans to gradually ramp down the site and close it by the end of 2009. The planned change concerns all of the approximately 320 employees working at the Jyväskylä site. The majority of employees at Nokia Jyväskylä work for devices product development, but the site also has some marketing activities and global support functions. Nokia plans to concentrate its mobile device R&D in Finland at existing sites in Tampere, Oulu, Salo and the Helsinki metropolitan area.

The planned change aims at adjusting the productization capacity of Nokia's Devices unit to reflect the portfolio cuts, thereby increasing efficiencies in its R&D operations and reducing operating expenditure. Nokia's target has been to focus product creation at larger sites, closer to technology asset creation, which enables the optimal use of competencies and infrastructure.

"Our employees in Jyväskylä are highly competent and have contributed to the creation of numerous hit products. The planned closure of the Jyväskylä site is an unfortunate, yet unavoidable measure. We must adjust our resources to reflect reduced market demand in order to maintain our competitiveness also in the future," says Peter Røpke, Senior Vice President, Devices R&D, Nokia.

Scaling down the production in Salo

Nokia plans to scale down the production in Salo to reflect the market demand. Nokia will implement temporary lay-offs on a rotational basis, with operations at the factory continuing without downtime. This arrangement is based on the Finnish labour practices and legislation, and is commonly used to adjust production to reflect notable fluctuation in market demand.

The temporary lay-offs are planned to be implemented in phases i.e. in a staggered way, with approximately 20 - 30% out of approximately 2 500 employees being temporarily laid off at a time, without interrupting the operations in Salo. The planned lay-offs impact all personnel groups in Salo production.

"With these plans, we aim to scale down Salo production to reflect reduced market demand, while operations in the factory continue uninterrupted," says Juha Putkiranta, Senior Vice President, Demand Supply Network Management, Nokia. "This is one of the measures we are taking to adjust our global demand supply network to the current situation."

In addition to the above mentioned plans, Nokia will also start consultations with employee representatives regarding personnel reduction plans impacting approximately 60 employees in global support functions and 30 employees in the planned ramping down and focusing of certain development activities in the New Businesses entity in Services.

All of these measures are part of Nokia's previously announced plans to adjust business operations and cost base according to market demand and safeguard future competitiveness. Nokia continues to seek savings in operational expenses, looking at all areas and activities across the company.

Press release: VidTeq – World’s first Video Map Based Road Navigation Solution

Are you tired of asking driving directions….are you tired of locating a business….We are here to help you out. We are a Bangalore based startup on a mission to help people with providing driving directions and locating a business.

VidTeq (India) Private Limited announces unique and innovative navigation concept based on Video Maps. Video Map is a feature rich next generation navigable map built on a traditional digital map. Video Map is a video clip of the complete route between source and destination with rich features (business logos, background music, turn-by-turn audio overlay, road names etc.) embedded into it. Video Map is built of individual geo-tagged video segments.

Driving directions provided traditionally consist of digital map and turn by turn text directions. These directions are easy to follow provided all the streets are marked with clearly visible street nameplates, which is usually not the case in countries like India. This is where need for visual navigation aid arises and our Video Map product would address this space.

Video Map is meant not only for navigation but is also useful for locating businesses and exploring the streets, all sitting in front of your computer. We have surveyed a list of prominent businesses, points of interest with their accurate location and also captured their photographs. This information in turn is embedded right inside the video and also on the digital map. You can explore the streets i.e. virtually navigate through the streets, and find out what is where even before you step out of the door.

As part of the navigable solution, we provide the following – Video Map of the complete route, Digital Map with Route overlay, Image (Point-of-Interest and Decision-Points) integration and Landmark based Text directions. The Images are integrated both into the Digital Map as well as Text directions.

We plan on rendering our service both through Portal as well as Cell phones. We also believe that in few years from now we will see Video Maps replacing/complementing Digital Maps in GPS devices. Initially our service will be offered only for Bangalore city. Our Web service will be offered starting Feb 9th and our Cell based service will be offered in a month from then. As part of our initial service we will have Video Maps covering all the Main roads and some of the internal roads of Bangalore city.

Vidteq has released first of its kind video maps on the web available free for users. A user can find the driving directions between any two points. A User friendly Text Directions along with Pictures of all Major landmarks. A Video with voice tagged along the route to help the user feel as he is driving live in the city.

User can find Businesses on search by just log on to; www.vidteq.com

Features:

•A visitor to city need not depend on someone's help to identify their route.

•Business people can have their target places marked efficiently.

•Business people can schedule their prospects highlighted on the map efficiently and avoid overlapping travel. Save Time and Cost.
