Brilliant Japanese map graphics

Is there a real reason why we don't get this level of GPS?

Maybe because we've already moved on to a bigger screen and don't want to go back down to 3.5 inch?

The Samsung STT-D370 is the first Global Positioning Systems (GPS) navigator to connect a mobile phone via Bluetooth® feature. The microphone and speaker phone, embedded in Bluetooth Navigator enable the users to make or receive phone calls and SMS text messages, without using a mobile phone.

Hmm, I don't think they are the first to do this. TomTom and Garmin have been doing this for some time now.

Is this the feature you are talking about? (Photo-realistic rendering of buildings and map features?)

The Bluetooth Navigator also offers a built-in Real 3D map developed by Samsung,

I think the map detail would be distracting and you would require a vast amount of CPU power and memory to render even a small part of the country in this manner.

Not to mention the cost of creating and maintaining the maps. The map providers have enough trouble keeping the maps abreast of even minor changes without resorting to gimmicks like this in my opinon.

It does look stunning and probably has the wow factor that they need for the Asian market, but I can't see that it has much practical use.
