Please pay attention to UPPER/ lower case characters in this guide, the exact spelling is very important, as are the underscore and hyphen characters.
Also it is not uncommon for people to rename files resulting in double file extensions such as MapSettings.cfg.cfg
To avoid this mistake before going any further open Windows Explorer and select Tools/ Folder Options View tab make sure the following selections are made:
Show Hidden files and folders IS SELECTED
Hide extensions for known file types IS NOT SELECTED
In TomTom version 5 your favourites were stored in a file named
Great_Britain-Map.cfg or possibly Great_Britain_Plus-Map.cfg
This file can be located in the map folder your version 5 software used, simply copy it to the PC, right click it and rename it to MapSettings.cfg
With the file re-named, copy the MapSettings.cfg to your new map folder that the version 6 software uses and all you previous settings will be transferred to the new software.

Mike,
I've seen a few posts to say that the poster can't get this method to work.
In that case, the following should work.

Its a manual process so depending how many favourites you have, it will take a little bit of time.
1 ) First, create a new POI category (Preferences / Manage POI / Add POI category ). Call it "Favs" or whatever you like.
2 ) Then go Preferences / Manage POI / Add POI / Favourite / and select your first favourite.
3 ) Repeat step 2 for each of you favourites.
The POI file will be found in your map folder, called "Favs.ov2" (if that's what you called it). Just copy that file (and its matching .bmp icon file) to your friends machine's map folder and enable it in the manage POI menu.
Just to stress that the other method should be tried first.
