Tchart Development have recently released a freeware GPS speedometer application called GPS Speedo.

Just click the GPS Speedo link on my website - http://www.tchartdev.com

Ive attached some screenshots below Smile

How difficult is it to include an average speed display?

(Yes, the SPECS question again)

The user would press a button saying - show average speed, counting from now on.

It would help us beginners, if we knew which units it would work on!
At a quick guess it will not work on the iQue 3600 or the 60CSX?????????

Strumble, sorry I should have mentioned this is for Pocket PC/Windows Mobile devices only.

Lutz, indeed! The application was a developed as a favour for an existing customer. I will have a look to see what kind of changes would be involved but I am a bit short on time at the moment (new baby in the house).

I am busy adding a quick reset button to GPS Speed Sentry so that should make it a bit easier to get an average speed for specs cameras.

Trevor,

You carry on with the development of Speed Sentry - ignore those who want even more for nothing :D

I would, however, be interested in what you have coming up for Speed Sentry - any chance of seeing your development plans?

Or perhaps it could load a POI file with the specs camera locations and automatically start/stop calculating your average speed as you enter/leave the zone. Wink

Hmm, maybe a better idea would be to add a speed camera warning facility to GPS Speed Sentry. We all sound a bit like we're wanting something for nothing here!

(Good luck with the new arrival mate - hopefully you will find some time to keep up your programming work!)

Hi All,

Thanks for all the comments.

The plans for GPS Speed Sentry at the moment are as follows;

1) I will shortly be releasing a small update which fixes a bug in saving the logging interval. This release will also include the completed action button which will allow a quick reset of the average speed (or a number of other functions) with just one button press.

2) The subsequent release will include support for the camera database here at Pocket GPS World. I have several stand alone prototypes working with the database which have various concepts nutted out - so the maths behind the whole thing is already done. The "database" will be more than just speed cameras as you can add POI to merely control the speed limits when you approach certain POI. To make space for the POI viewer I will be rewriting the graphs into a single page with several customisable graphs.

Other plans which are being explored are other data formats for logging including Pocket Excel and more Google Earth support (at the moment you can only save single POI's to KML).

There is still a fair bit of work to go with the second release but I hope to have it done before Christmas. At the moment its a matter of juggling sleep, work and two other GPS applications I have in the pipeline.

Regards
Trevor

Unfortunately this approach only works when SPECS cameras are in dedicated pairs which is not always the case. If there are say 3 sets, it would start logging at the first, stop and the second and leave you with nothing between the 2nd and 3rd. Checkpoint actually has a similar function for monitoring average speed sections but it falls down in exactly the same way.

Simple, set up the buttons on your pda, one for Tomtom, another for GPS Speed Sentry, then you can alternate between the two at the press of a button. Note however that both require a GPS feed and depending on your operating system you may need another application, like Franson GPS gate to allow you to run 2 GPS apps of the same signal.

You can switch easily, and have them both running together. ..you can program a hardware button for each of the applications and purchase GpsGate to give virtual ports so each one can have a Gps signal ..
