We have released 2 new data formats with this relase of the Speed Camera Database: Garmin GDB and TomTom Home. Both of these are in Beta at the moment although they have been tested.

Currently there are no installation instructions for them. I am currently working on them but thought you might want to try them as soon as possible.

Note that the TomTom Home version does not work on the Mac platform at the moment only the Windows software is supported.

Have Fun!! :P

To install the TomTom home database all you need to do is unzip the files into the TomTom content directory C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME\Content

The next time you start home it should recognise the new files and alloow you to install using Home. You will still have to configure the alerts in the normal way.

Thank you 'Oldie' and Mike for the new database format for Garmin and Mapsource.

The .gdb format will open in the MapSource program supplied by Garmin with MetroGuide, CitySelect and CityNavigator.

This new format will enable us, who have previously used the .gpx database, to open the file in 9 seconds instead of 129 seconds.

MapSource uses .gdb as the default file system, rather than the [still available] .mps or .gpx format.

When you download the new database from the Website [under Garmin], you unzip it and find the new .gdb file.

Select the file and open it and you will find the total database [10000+] waypoints/cameras are available for viewing in MapSource, whether you have MetroGuide, CitySelect and CityNavigator and any combination of them.
[I can also see the 'overlay' in MapSource]

If you use the database on the iQue then the .gdb format is for you!

MikeB:

If memory serves me right this question has been asked before.
Although I can't recall seeing an answer.

Is there any decision, or can the file name/s of the camera DL be shortened Question

Currently ..... pocketgps_uk_mobile_20
Possibly to ...pgps_uk_mobile_20
or even ....... pgpsw_uk_mobile_20

Only when allocating the various sounds most of the relevant info is just of the screen (out of view), which means having to be extra careful in the sequence of labelling the sounds.

I know it can be done after downloading them, but that then means doing it every time a new set come out.

Thanks.

Sorry BGF I don't quite know what you mean, unless you're referring to the speed, of which isn't relevant.

pgpsw_uk_mob_20
= pocket gps world uk mob 20

Lets face it, any title would do, providing it's short than the existing one.

This is the naming convention that I use:-

pgpsuk_mob_20
pgpsuk_red_20
pgpsuk_gat_20
pgpsuk_spx_20
...

Looking at this request, I failed at first to see the importance!

Looking at this request in relation to the screen of my Garmin GPSMap 60CSx.

I use the 'zoned' database

In the FIND--CUSTOM POI I see:-

pocketgps_uk-gatso_20
pocketgps_uk-gatso_30
pocketgps_uk-gatso_40
pocketgps_uk-gatso_50

and so on, 23 times.........

The speed values [red digits] of each database are missing due to the restriction of the number of digits on a Garmin screen, and so restricting our ability to seach a specific database from the 23 [zoned] available.

Reducing the number of digits in the database name by three, would allow me/us to see all the speed values, and the tba + var

Please consider the original request.
Thank you.

Yes, but if Pocket GPS were to shorten the titles you/we wouldn't have to manually change them each time.

Strumble.
Thanks for for putting my original request/question in a more understandable "clearer" way.

Have had to download the database the ‘old fashioned way’ using the OV2 download, on to my TT1 card.
This was due to the fact that I couldn’t find the /Content folder in my C/Program Files/ Tom Tom Home/ folder.
Despite re-loading Tom Tom Home a couple of times, making sure everything was up to date and all working OK, I haven’t a /Content folder to put the new TT1 database into.
Everything is working fine with the new camera data, but it would be nice to have been able to put the data into the /Contents as suggested.
Am I ‘missing the bleeding obvious’ here, and if so, would someone kindly point me in the right direction.
M.

In TomTom home application go to File/ Preference then on the pop-up window select the advanced tab the two files (CAB and toc) go into the "Extra Content" folder as listed on this screen - Mike

Thanks Mike
I just wouldn’t have thought of looking in there. It’s not exactly obvious is it?
Well to me it isn’t.
Thanks again.
