I just received an eTrek Legend as a birthday presence. It is at software version 3.20.
I am trying to download maps from MetroGuide USA v5, and am getting inconsistencies in the amount of memory used as reported by the gps. I downloaded 6.78 MB of map data (according to mapsource), but the GPS lists only 3% of memory used. This seems a bit off for an 8 MB unit.
Also, how much memory is saved if you turn of the autoroute info in the download? It seems like that would be significant, but the mapsource software seems to ignore this setting when doing size calculations. I was surprised to discover you cannot get the entire DFW area in 8 MB. I am considering exchanging the unit for a Vista, but I wanted to figure out if there is any way to optimize things for the 8 MB unit first.
