Yet MORE "proxy" errors running autoupdate

OK, just downloaded the latest version of POI edit, and then tried to point to the pocket gps site link for update - and got "socket error 10053....please check internet connection and proxy settings" OK thought I, I'm sat behind a hardware firewall in my wireless router which is blocking DNS on port 53 :x , so hey, let just disconnect and reconnect directly via my old adsl modem, shut down windows firewall, and I'll be away...except I still get exactly the same error. And yes, I have followed the link to the FAQ and unchecked all boxes in the LAN connection menu in IE, and yes, I have set POI edit to use IE settings. So - what is the solution?
