If you remove the SD card and press and hold the power button you get a screen full of interesting information. One is CPU speed and it says 288Mhz but all the reviews, specs, etc state a 380Mhz cpu speed,

Which is correct and are the manufacturers deliberately trying to deceive?

Just a thought,

Maybe its a load sensitive CPU, to save battery power many PDA CPUs step the speed depending on the workload to save battery power,

As the One is under no load when the Bios screen is brought up, maybe the CPU is in power saving mode?.

Since you can do nothing to upgrade the speed of the processor and it does what it says on the box - does it matter??

If you brought a 3GHZ P4 pc from Pc World and you got it back and it was an 800 Duron would you just say "Oh well it witches on and loads into windows what else do you want" would you not feel a bit miffed?

Well it's not quite the same is it? Processor speed on a PC will affect its ability to run certain applications efficiently, but what difference would you expect to see on a TomTom One running at 380MHz rather than 288MHz. The aim of this device is to plan a route, get you from A to B and update the maps in near real time as you go along which it does. Maybe a future model will need a faster processor to cope with more knobs and whistles but present it does what it says on the box and you've got no choice in processor speed for it; so as I said - does it matter?

Perhaps it's because I use Macs that I'm less hung up about processor speeds Wink

TomTom have advised the following in respect of the reported processor speed on the ONE and RIDER devices:
Quote:
The reason the device shows 288 MHz is that the software indicating the CPU speed is part of the bootloader. It runs at 288 MHz and switches the CPU to 380 MHz after the device has booted-up.

So the device boots at 288 MHz but navigates at 380 MHz.
