Why not ask the membership?

I've been lurking around this site and the forums for a while - it was the camera database that initially brought me here, and I've been a regular reader of the forums since that time.

Just one or two comments to make ... one of the moderators mentioned that the majority of the attendees at the 'meet' had been in favour of a charge of some sort. But surely the 700-odd people who were there were a very small subsection of this site's user community? And a majority of this small 'sub'group' is still a minority of the overall PGPSW community.

I, too, would like to know what happened to all the promises that I've seen in these forums that the database would remain a free resource.

Is it possible to set up a simple poll in PHPBB, in the same way as it is in inVision forums? Someone mentioned that the only reason that this thread is so full of negative comment is that most people who would be happy to pay don't feel the need to post. So, let's have a poll - three options :"Yes, I'd be happy to pay the proposed amount" ... "I'd be happy to pay, but not that much" ... "No, I think charging for the database is a bad idea". Can't be that difficult to set up a simple three-option poll, can it? And why not put it on the main page of the site, so that it's as visible as possible and attracts 'votes' (of whichever flavour!) from people who might not see it if it was buried within the forums?
