Hi,

Bit of clarification please?

Today I bought a i3 and upgraded the OS to 2.7, down loaded the Garmin POI loader tool and down loaded the Garmin POIs from http://www.MaFt.co.uk/garmin/download.htm

I have read
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/Garmin%20POI%20Loader%20install.pdf
in this document it says that the speed camera ZIP will have a Garmin folder or the structure, it doesn't. I can see the different files with data structured for types of GPS, but can see no reference to Garmin, only "other".

My question is which of the file/s in pocketgps_uk_sc_oct05 should I extract into the same folder containing the mafts Garmin POIs and BMP files read to be transferred to the i3 with the POI loader tool?

Cheers

John

Nice guide, MELennium.

Here's another step to add, it seems that a few people have struck this problem for one reason or another, ie, the unit shipped without ephemeris/ almanac or it was wiped after a reset or firmware update.

If the GPS doesn't get a fix after 2 or 3 minutes then it may take from 5 to 30 minutes to get it's first fix. Take the StreetPilot to a place with a good view of the sky and not obstructed by too many buildings/trees etc. Large outdoor carparks, hilltops or your back garden are good places to try. Don't move the StreetPilot while it downloads the data.

Once it has had a first fix, it should lock on within a minute or two from cold (off for more than 8 hours) or in 10 to 30 seconds from hot (off for less than 8 hours) if it has a fairly good view of the sky.

Has anyone started or know of a i3 FAQ?
There is lots of good info in the threads that could be brought together in one place.

Mafts guide is great for the POI loading. I'm sure other sections could be generated.

Any thoughts?

I have started something, early days yet. I pour over forums and pull any juicy bits out. Should have something to post soon. Things get in the way... like work! I guess there will be some duplication but as another thread suggest the old timers get miffed at newb's enthuisiasm to get going with their new toy(it was me!) so a single area would help all.

Cheers

Mnay thanks for the guides. I just got the i3 today, I was dissapointed by the lack of a decent instructions.

I cant find any salelittes at present but I assume that because I am indoors so I try later. However, I see no mention in manual about what the onnector is on rhs I assume thats for an aerial. On rhs near battery no mention in manual of what the slot is, looks empty is this for a sd transcard?

IN manula it also states "plug one end of vehcile adaptor into the usb port of i2/i3. Plug other end in to receptacle of your vehciles". Whats that all about? what usb lead, theres two, one car/usb and usb/pc cable. Am I right in saying its the car power adaptor?

The unit seems to have inbuilt memory form what I can make out. I updated the unit with web updater above from 2.70 to 3.10. Installed usb drivers off CD supplied. Downloaded POI program and poi but when I unzip files and try to put it in the garmin it states not enough memory.

I also cant seem to get the thing to tell right time and no way of getting it to change other than time zone.

Any help would be apprepiated as I need thsi wokring for my hols on Saturday Thanks

Welcome

I suggest that you get in your car and have a look at what you've got. It should be fairly obvious which cable is the power plug - you can connect one end to the cigarette lighter and the other to the i3.

If it doesn't get a fix within a minute or two then park somewhere that you have a fairly good view of the sky and wait, it may take 5 to 15 minutes for it's first fix (from then on it should only take a minute or two for a first fix).

The time will be set once you get a first fix. Sometimes the time may be off by 15 seconds, this will correct itself after having a fix for about 15 minutes.

Enjoy!
