I keep copies of the Navigator maps I use most commonly on my PC and transfer them to my PPC as I need them (using ActiveSync). It's a bit slow but until now it's always worked.

Today, when trying to transfer the MRE map, it kept on falling over midway through the mapinfo.dat file.

At first I thought it was AS playing up, but I can transfer other large (50MB+) files without problem. In fact I can transfer every other map file without problem except mapinfo.dat.

I then thought it was the SD card, so I reformatted it - same problem.

I tried FAT32 instead of FAT16 - same problem.

I tried transferring the problem file to a microdrive - same problem.

I tried transferring the file to main memory - same problem.

I tried reinstalling the maps to the PC - same problem.

I tried installing the map directly from the CD to the PPC - same problem.

I tried renaming the file - same problem.

Then I tried reinstalling the Great_Britain map...and it fell over at the mapinfo.dat file!

I tried uninstalling any PPC programs that I'd installed since last installing Navigator - same problem.

I've re-imaged my PC and re-installed AS - well you can guess.

It was working a month ago when I had to reinstall Navigator after upgrading to WM2003.

I've since ordered a card reader (which I should have done ages ago anyway) but has anyone got any idea what's going on?

Thanks

ActiveSync has file format conversions. If you're unlucky the .DAT files have been added to the conversion list.

Yes, a card reader would have solved this problem long time ago...
