This year at CeBIT there was one GPS receiver that – undeservedly - got not much press coverage. Recently we have had the chance to test the Solar Bluetooth GPS Receiver, just in time now that it has started to hit the shelves both in Europe ( www.starnavigation.de ) and in the US ( www.semsons.com ) and probably in a number of other countries, under a variety of names. Have a read and see if this innovative product is something you want to consider as your next receiver.

Excellent review.. Did you try charging the unit from un-natural light?

The new type "solar" panels, use any light source, even bulbs!

Indeed I tried (using a halogen light) - with zero result. Only direct sunlight seems to charge this solar battery.

Just recieved one of these from semsons.com (only took 3 days to UK) and will let you know how I get on with it after using it for a week or two. Initial findings with rx3715 seem ok, locking on to 6 sats, within the specified time, from my bedroom windowsill (inside). It is larger than most but it does have that 'well built' feel to it.

Lets see how it performs in action then, I'll let you know.

By the way, you can try to win one of them over at digitalreviews.net

http://www.digitalreviews.net/competition/solar7/index.htm

They give away 5 of the receivers, the action runs until July 31st.

I have no luck getting the GPS receiver linking to my Motorola E815 using bluetooth. Any help or point me to the right direction will be much appreciated.

Hardware : fTech Solar BT GPS receiver, Motorpla E815, 512 MB T-Flash.
Mapsource: Garmin Citynavigator Northamerica

Install/Setup citynavigator to T-Flash (CD to Card reader)
move T-flash to Cell phone.
enable bluetooth connection to "Find me" on cell.
With fully charged battery, I powered on both receiver and Cell phone
at my backyard. I was hoping to see the units bonding to each other but didn't happened. Play around with e815's bluetooth settings, still don't work.

Am I missing somesettings? What else should I do to get the units talking to each other? I am dying to try out the GPS system so that I can be ready for this long weekend trip........ HELP

Finally I got all the hardware - Blue Tooth Solar Receiver, Transflash and map source (Garmin Citynavigater N/A) that I need and ready for my first GPS experience.

I Loaded the mapsource onto the Transflash card and insert it to my Motorola E815. Charged the Battery of the receiver for 4 hrs and read some manual
take the GPS receiver and cell phone outside.
Power on both unit, set the connection link of my cell phone to bluetooth, find me......etc.... How do you get the mapsource to show up on my screen (phone). Help!!! anyone has the step by step instructions :=)

Much appreciate your help

I don't use Mapsource, so I can't give you any other constructive advice.

I don't know specifically about the Motorola E815, or the fTech Solar BT GPS receiver, but usually I'd expect to switch on the GPS and then search for it from the phone.
What LEDs are showing?
