I am afraid not.

That is the whole point of the liscensing for OS maps. You can only use them in one application. This has been a bone of contention with me for some time now.

To use them effectively in Ozi3D you would also need the DEM data for the altitude profiles, which is also stored in proprietry format.

The best thing that you can do is to write to OS, but dont hold your breath. They are an institutional dinasoar.

Is there any software available to convert Memory-Map's ".QCT" format OSGB Maps to any other format that OziExplorer can understand. I want to use the 3d mapping that's available in Oziexplorer without having to buy the same map in a different form...I know you can't export "QCT"s from MM but surely there's a way to Do this ??
Thanks

this is interesting.

unfortunately, the code fails to decode blocks when the first ucPalEntry equals 128 on line 557.

Anyone figured out a fix?

You will need to get past the encription first, which from what I have heard will not be easy.

That program does decode almost all 64 by 64 pixel blocks. The only blocks it does not decrypt are ones mentioned. About 1 in 100 64x64 pixel blocks aren't decoded correctly.

There now seems to be a few pieces of information - of unknown quality - available out there about the QCT file format:

If OZI will save its maps as any sort of image then the answer is 'yes'. Save it as a 8-bit png (or use something like Gimp to convert to an 8-bit indexed format and save as .png). Then use a free converter to create a .jpr calibration file from Ozi's .map then Memory map will load these and save as qct.

Apparently - allegedly - posting some publicly available information and links 'breaches' copyright; strange old world, hey? But: search and ye shall find.

There is also at least one converter out there which supposedly converts ozf2 and ozfx3 files to normal bitmaps - it's just a bit harder to find. I think it's called ozf2img. I don't have a link but then it would probably be censored for breach of copyright anyway ;-)

This post is copyright (c) 2008 barny451 and must not be altered in any way.

If we receive a legitimate request to remove or amend a link then we will act on good faith and do so.

In this instance Memory-Map requested the link be removed and I have done so.

Fair enough, you have your commercial interests to consider - no spite intended!. I didn't know that MM themselves had requested the removal.

It's just that the reason as stated made it sound as though the original post itself breached copyright, directly or indirectly, which would of course be nonsense.

I've amended the explanation to more accurately reflect the reason for the removal of the links.

hi there, this is my first post but i thought i'd just say what i've tried this afternoon. its not really a straight forward conversion of a QCT to JPG but its also probably a bit more legal than doing that. the memory map navigator program allows you to print the maps so i printed to an XPS document, where you can choose resolution, area and size etc. (this is the option you get when you dont have a printer connected). then i downloaded a free trial of an XPS to BMP/JPG etc converter (able2extract) and made my images to use with oziexplorer. This I found much quicker and easier than doing lots of screen grabs and stitching them together, especially on my 12" low-resolution laptop. anyway maybe this will help some people.
