I am new to the GPS thing and have a Garmin GPS 111 which I would like to run with a lap top running Memory map.

The set up process wants me to select "Garmin" or "NMEA" from the Garmin GPS set up menue but try as I have I can not find out how to do it.

In the Garmin menu you need to select NMEA, and if a baud rate is selectable, select 4800. You then on the PC need to select your COM port (eg COM1 or 2) and also select NMEA if you're given the option.

Brian,

I'm assuming that the III uses the same menu as my III+, so apologies if it doesn't.

Firstly, switch the unit on! Press the 'MENU' button twice in quick succession and you should see a list of options, with 'SETUP' at the bottom. Use the rocker to hightlight 'SETUP' and then press enter. You should then go to another page with menu tabs long the top. Mine always starts with 'System' inthe focus. Use the rocker button to page right (past Units, Timers, etc.) until you get to 'Interface' which is the last option on my unit. Press the down rocker to move the focus to 'Garmin' and then press 'Enter'. Use the rocker to select 'NMEA'. Mine automatically sets the baud rate to 4800 and this figure isn't alterable. When done, press 'Quit' to get back to the normal pages and you should be done.
