Have the warnings of a speed camera become more acurate ?

For one thing they will be more up to date than the last time you used them, accuracy of the PGPSW database has never been an issue for me unlike some of the manufacturer supplied database solutions.

The Garmin device doesn't support third party POI files with directional data so you will get warnings when approaching cameras on the other side of the road.

ive heard the cyclops garmin database only alerts you to speed cameras on the side of the road you are traveling, does the PocketGPSWorld database do this now ?

The Cyclops database is directional and fully supported by the Garmin product range as it is supplied by Garmin, it is also more costly, less accurate - The odd warning of a camera on the other side of the road is far better than no warning at all and when you consider the accuracy of the Mobile camera sites which are the ones most suited to catch you out its an easy choice as to which is better - at the end of the day though the choice is yours - Mike

AKellett...

Hi Alan, if you're wondering where your post has gone, I've moved it out into a topic of it's own - easier for everyone to see it there so you might get better answers. Smile

You can find the new topic HERE.

I have a tomtom go910 and a kenwood DNX-7200.

When I load them on my device do I need to load the single file version?

The Single File version no longer exists for the TomTom, and I don't think it does for the Kenwood, either.

It is entirely your choice which of the remaining two versions, Consolidated by Type or Speed Zoned, that you load.

Consolidated by type tells you that there's a camera ahead and whether it's a fixed camera, mobile site, SPECS or traffic light camera.

Speed Zoned gives you the above information and also tells you the speed limit in force at that point. BUT this version consists of more files, so takes a little longer to set up.

So, it's up to you. Choose which of the above two methods satisfies your requirements better.

The Kenwood is based on Garmin software/hardware and, as such, gives you 'Garmin-style' warnings. Regardless of file selection you will ALWAYS be shown the speed limit - the only difference being in Consolidated the icon is the generic camera type icon (mobile icon, fixed icon, specs icon) and SPeed Zoned will show you the speed icon. Whichever you choose for te Kenwood you will always get a red banner that says '30mph Speed Alert', '50mph Speed Alert' etc.

I use the German POI Warner on my Garmin 3598. It works well and displays the appropriate speed camera position as a speed limit sign (30, 40 etc) in mph or kph depending on the Garmin setting. It works well except the downside is the alerts are in German.

The Garmin database is displayed as a Camera.

My question, how does the PGW display the cameras? Is there a voice warning to accompany the popup.

Do I get the database and then use the Garmin POI Loader?

Thanks.

Dig out my recent thread re CSV to Garmin in the Garmin sub section.

Hopefully that answers all your questions

Hi geejay38,

Introduction

This is not intended as an instruction on how to use the PocketGPSWorld (PGPSW) camera database with your SatNav set-up. It is purely an explanation of the camera database, how it’s spilt up into camera types (categories) and subcategories, and the files that make up the database.

Sorry, as stated in the first post and quoted here, this a generic thread to explain how the PGPSW camera database may group camera types within file types to be downloaded.

For specific help with installing and using the PGPSW camera database with your own SatNav it is best that you keep to your existing thread, i.e. Nissan Connect 3 (LCN2).

Regards,
