Hi,
I'm a newcomer to the wonderful world of GPS having recently purchased a SP 2610, great piece of kit.
However I have just found out, confirmed by Garmin that there are no campsites listed as poi's in European City Navigator!
My question is this, is it possible to download a campsite database as poi's
to the 2610 and if so how difficult this for someone with limited computer skills.
The campsites I am most interested in are the French ones.
Apologies if this has already been covered but new to this forum.
Any help much appreciated
Hi,
I just found out that Garmin doesn't map campsites into their lodgings too!
Was it too much work for them or do they think no one in Europe camps!
Maybe they will update v7 to do it, I am just waiting for my disks.
Anyway, as a work around, you can put POI's in your 2610. Not too teccy really. Go to http://www.poihandler.com (or whatever resource you find) and download the POI's you want (not all countries have camping sites added and you will need to register to download) then save as OV2 on your PC. Then download GPS utility from http://www.gpsu.co.uk
From GPS utility open the file you downloaded (you will have to unzip it)
It may prompt you for ID selection, just click OK, and you can play later.
You will then have all the campsite info in the window (you may have to register to see more than 100)
You can change the 'waypoint' to 'camoground' by editing the entry before you upload. Make sure you only upload once or you will get duplicats which are a pain to remove.
Then click Upload all from the GPS menu, and voila! (making sure your GPS is on and plugged in.
If there is a better way to do this let me know, or if you have a better site for camping POI's.
