The new blue bar of shame in IOS 11 helps with this. If any app continues to use location services in the background the top bar changes to blue and displays details of the app which is using the location. This lets you identify and kill apps which don't behave as you would like.

Another IOS 11 feature that helps is the, now compulsory, "While using the app" option (in addition to "Always" and "Never") for location services. This allows you to prevent background apps from using your location even if the app developer didn't provide that option.

well the initial response from garmin was there standard response

ensure you are using the traffic adapter for the pnd and for the app try disconnecting it from your device and then relink it

told them that as both work independantly and they were both showing the same issue, then this is a problem with their software, not my mobile or my pnd.

Sadly Garmin support are like the Indian call centres.

They are not allowed to think and must use cue cards to supply the closest answer they can find.
