Hi,

Currently in Jersey (C.I.) with my new Garmin Camper 770LMT-D and I'm not receiving traffic data. Please help.

I'm not sure whether Inrix covers the CIs, but it does apparently cover Europe.

I thought that the unit (with its dual power and traffic data receiver lead) would pick up either DAB or RMS data but I'm not getting anything.

I've even installed the Garmin Smart Link app on my iPhone.

So:
1. Is there any Garmin or inrix traffic data for Jersey?
2. If there is, what type, and how do i receive it?

Presumably if I have to use the app then it has to be running in the background all the the time that the Garmin PND is running?

When I goto Apps | Traffic, all I get is message "Waiting for traffic data. This could take several minutes".

So can you get Garmin traffic data in Jersey.

Nb I am still very much a Garmin newbie and even though I think I've RTFM fully I just can't get it to work.

Regards,[/u]

Sorry no idea. You may need to call Garmin to find out.

If you go to the 'traffic' section in settings, does it show that it is still trying to connect to a provider ?

I would have thought Smartlink would display something if available.

Does Jersey have traffic issues ?

Hi thanks for the replies.

I hadn't contacted Garmin support as I thought I'd read here that they didn't always know their products that well, so I asked here first. I have now sent an email to Garmin support so we'll see how they respond.

Ok, I have Europe traffic subscriptions including:
Inrix (UK) DAB
Inrix (UK)
V-Traffic (FR)

I may drive to St Catherine's Breakwater which is nearest point to France and you used to get your mobile phone switch to a French network, so the Garmin should in theory (with a little luck) pick up French traffic (RDS) so I'll need to look at French map.

If I launch Garmin Smart Link iOS app, I get a symbol on the Garmin which looks like "L" with top half of an asterisk "*" on top of it.

Regardless of whether Smart Link app is running, it says searching for current provider in Traffic in Settings.

When I press the Traffic button on Garmin it displays "Waiting for traffic data. This could take several minutes".

Whilst traffic isn't essential in Jersey it is nice to have especially at rush hour times around St Helier.

Apologies for any typos as iPhone keyboard is very small and predictive text is generally coming up with wrong suggestions.

Regards,

I've driven to St Catherine's Breakwater. There's a café there which has Wifi that I can connect to whilst still in the vehicle.

Smart Link app is working although I can't get the phone to connect to a French mobile network

When the Smart Link app is working, the Garmin reports weather for Jersey. But when the Smart Link apps is shut down I don't get the weather icon.

I think that there is limited data for Jersey, that being only via the Smart Link app and then only for weather and not traffic.

I haven't heard back from Garmin yet, although it's only been 24 hours since I contacted them for help so hopefully they'll give me a definitive answer.

Regards

Ok, they are the data provider, but who actually 'does' the DAB broadcasting?
And can you 'get' DAB in Jersey?

Even if no DAB Garmin devices will revert to RDS-TMC as back up.

Good idea to contact Inrix which I did via email a couple of days ago and also Garmin support a day before that. At the moment no response from either.

There are no obvious Traffic Master units on the island.

I can pick up DAB (but only Radio One).

Regards,

Well, we're back home and it's been over a fortnight since I emailed Garmin and Inrix about traffic for Jersey and the Channel Islands and I've had no reply from either! Evil or Very Mad

How long does Garmin usually take to reply to email questions?

Regards,

I've normally had replies within a few days. Try calling them instead.

Yes, they do or at least Inrix does. If you download the Inrix app for your phone and go over to Jersey, zoom in and you can see the traffic levels on the roads. I've just done it out of curiousity!
