Have recently started to use the TOMTOM Go Mobile app on my Android smartphone and noticed that when I log into TOMTOM My Drive on my PC there appears to be a facility to download OV2 files and add them to the app on my smartphone. Prior to that I used a TOMTOM 730 PND and have been using the Pocketgpsworld camera databases without a problem for many years.

Can I download the Pocketgpsworld camera database and add it to the app on my smartphone or is not compatible?

Hi skt,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

I'm afraid that I have the iOS version of TomTom GO Mobile app, which is apparently much less developed than the Android version.

MyDrive has ben around for sometime, however I have never used it because I have no TomTom product that is compatible with MyDrive. My understanding of MyDrive is that while you can indeed use it to download .ov2 files to compatible TomTom products, you can only use the .ov2 files to navigate to because they don't show up on the Navigation nor Map screens.

So to answer your question: Yes you probably can load the PocketGPSWorld camera database to your smartphone but it probably won't be much use as the cameras won't show on the screen.

However, as I've said I have the iOS version so your app is completely different to mine. Please experiment and let us know in this thread.

Regards,

Thank you for your reply. I did experiment but as you say all it achieves is to add the location to navigate to as a POI. I will therefore have to make do with the TOMTOM camera alerts or alternatively I assume if I download the PocketGPSWorld app and minimise it I will be able to hear the warnings.

NO! Please don't use the TomTom speed cameras as they are rubbish and out of date!

CamerAlert for Android is OK to run in the background and will alert you to fixed and mobile camera sites. In addition whilst in SPECS zones you can bring CamerAlert to the foreground and have it display your actual and average speeds.

If you have tried the new TomTom GO Mobile for android, have you got the old TomTom app for android? If the old TomTom app for android is anything like the old TomTom app for iOS then you should be able to download the PGPSW speed camera database as .ov2 files with the associated .bmp files to show the location of the cameras on both the map and navigation screen. If you use CamerAlert in the background then you can have audio warnings as well!

Regards,

I didn't have the old TOMTOM app for android and understand that you can only obtain it now if you bought it before the current version was released.
However I think I will go with the option of running the CamerAlert app in the background as I agree that the TOMTOM camera database is very poor.
Many thanks for your help with this.
Regards
Steve
