That's another reason why I use the cameras from here rather than the Garmin ones. Using Kremmens program you can set different warning distances for different speeds, so can personalise it for your needs. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

My reservation about your speed can is what you get. I like what I get from POI Base and I know I probably don't like Garmin. I don't know if I would like your's.
I have cross posted to find out more about the visual and audio warnings. |

Ah, I see, you have already had one in the other post. |

I don't know whether Cyclops has changed but when I tried it years ago all I got was a tiny blue dot and a bong.
With the cams here I don't need to take my eyes off the road as it announces each one.
I also run the 44x44 icon set so when I do briefly take my eyes off the road they stand out.
The big disadvantage I found though was that I was getting bongs for cameras on different roads. Cyclops, like Garmin seem to think you need almost 40 seconds advance warning. _________________ Satnav:

I have used the Garmin speed can trial for a few days:
The warning comes nearer the camera than my other system. However only the mobile speed cam safety zone alert works correctly. All the fixed cam data assumes the limit is 50 kph not mph and same for others. It then converts this to mph ie 31. This is then shown instead of the correct limit of 50. My system then generates a speed warning.
Garmin's solution is to delete a data base file in a folder that starts .system/
Fine, except for one little problem; no such folder, or similar, exists on my 3598. |

That's because it's a hidden system folder, it is there
In order to see the .system folder on your Nuvi you need to make Folder View Option changes in Windows as follows:
Windows 8 and 10:
1) Open the Control Panel. (Right click on the Windows square in the bottom left of your computer screen. Select Control Panel and click on it.)
2) Inside Control Panel, click on "Appearance and Personalization", then "Folder Options" or “File Explorer Options". This will open the File Explorer Options window.
3) Inside the File Explorer Options window, click on the "view" tab.
Select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"
Remove check mark for “Hide Empty Drives”
Remove check mark for “Hide protected operating system files” (Recommended)”
Windows 7:
1) Open Windows Explorer and select Organise, Folder and Search Options
2) Click the View tab.
3) Uncheck ‘Hide protected operating system files.
4) Check ‘Show hidden files, folders and drives’
You may also need to change your device to Mass Storage mode in order for the .system folder to be visible in Windows. You can make this change on your Nuvi by following these procedures:
1. Bring up the volume screen on the GPS.
2. On the upper right hand corner. Press your finger on screen and hold for appx 10 seconds.
3. Shortly you will see the developers screen.
4. Find MTP Settings and touch it.
5. It will show 3 selections. MTP Auto Detect,Mass Storage and Mass Storage Single Session.
6. Touch Mass Storage as your selection.
7. Select save. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thank you, everything worked except for one little thing.
Garmin told me to delete
.system\sqlite\speedcorrectiolns and the speed.db fiile. The folder speed corrections and speeds.db are noit there.

Garmin offered some additional thoughts on rectifying the incorrect speed cam data.
To recap and refresh:
Approaching the speed cm the Garmin correctly marks the position but converts the mph speed as if it was kph and displays a new lower MPH figure for the speed zone and generates a speeding alert even when the car is travelling below the real speed limit. One interrogating the data it showed for a 50 mph camera - 50 mph Speed Camera and then the limit at 37.3 mph.
Garmin suggested I reinstall the maps - I did and it made no difference.
I have now delete the safety_camera_uk.gpi, safety_camera_uk.gma and safety_camera_uk.unl files that appear to be the trials files. When running passed a speed cam today, after the deletions, it still gave me a false warning.
The only other .gpi file I have is 1004.gpi file installed from a different speed cam warner.
Apart from the nuclear option, can anyone suggests what other Garmin files I should delete? |

If you've deleted those files then you shouldn't be getting any warnings. Note though that your Garmin will hoover up .gpi files from anywhere so do a search for .gpi files anywhere on your device and card, if one is installed. Also note if you use a Mac you must empty the trash.
If there really are no .gpi files then you won't get any speed camera warnings.
Note Garmin won't simply convert speeds on its own account. If its set to mph it will display in mph. If you have speed camera limits being shown incorrectly then its almost certainly because they were loaded using the wrong format. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks for the quick reply.
The only format option I can think of is the one with POI Base that says kph but then displays UK cams in MPH and continental in KPH. May be that is what is screwing the Garmin.
It says that in Express mode (on POI Loader) that the files will use the correct speeds. I have just tried a reset of that data to use yards and mph rather than metres and kph. Maybe that will nail it. |

POI loader will either use mph or kph, it cannot do both, so that will be your issue.
I am often in France, and have to load two files. One covering UK set to mph, and one covering France set to kph. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Sussamb and Kremmen, indeed that was the problem. Interesting that with POI Base I could select kpm and meters and it would correctly display either mph or kph correctly. Anyway having reinstalled the POI Base data with mph/yards Garmin's data was also displayed correctly.
Now it remains to be seen if it works |
