Just treated myself to a Nuvicam.

Due to my 2595 expiring - rather prematurely I might add - I needed a unit with voice command. I'd fancied trying digital traffic and had been looking at dash cams lately. The Nuvicam seems to fit the bill. I happened upon a Halfords discount code and added my British Cycling discount and got it for £207. Rather good price I thought!

Initial impressions are OMG thats big and the reflective screen that various reviews have complained about. Well I use it in a van so it sits an arm length away (hence the need for voice command). The reflections dont seem too bad. Something I'll get used to as I did with my MacbookPro!

Everything seems to work as it should though its only day 1 Smile

Currently updating maps and software so that may change!!

Bit of an update after a week or so.
I'm really quiet impressed with the Nuvicam.

Everything seems to work as it should. It all updated without drama.
The touch screen is an improvement on my previous nuvi, just touching it with a fingernail works.

The dashcam is working well and despite being on one side of the screen, when you view the footage its almost as its in a central position, very clever.

The magnetic mount works very well. So easy to remove it from the vehicle and it goes back on the mount in exactly the same position it came off, relevant for the dashcam view.

A little message pops up telling me how long its going to take me to get home and any traffic every evening. How does it know I'm going home? Smile
(Although googlemaps on my phone is better as it gives the info about going to work in the mornings as well - come on Garmin - Keep up!

As a side note, at last the maps have my postcode correctly positioned, thats only taken 20 years or so!!

If the new 2016 Nuvicam, circa April, has a built in traffic receiver and can therefore use the TA cable then I'll seriously consider it. If it retains the washing line antenna then I'll stick with what I've got.

That's myTrends at work, it'll soon 'learn' your morning routine as well provided your work location is saved to favourites.

Nope, doesn't matter what you call it but it must be saved to favourites

That used to be brilliant as you didn't need to plot the route to get a full traffic display and estimated time to work or home.

However, if you popped out one weekend, went somewhere else, but the first few miles covered the same track then it stopped working as it didn't know which one you were going to.

Is that 'saved to favourites' a new ploy to overcome that?

Don't think so but I always have myTrends switched off.

I have found that if I dont follow the route the unit would give under a navigation entry (fastest), the x minutes to home disappears as soon as you deviate.
I always take the same alternative route home (as the fastest route uses a lane with passing places and its usually faster to use the main road around it).
I take this same route home every night so mytrends obviously isn't tracking my actual route taken, only the start and finish points.

Just seen this reply from a Garmin rep on the Garmin forum about loading their camera files to a nuvicam. Seems strange and I'm presuming POIs would work if installed to the SD card?

I researched this a little more. The Dash Cam devices have some very limited internal memory for operating system updates and things like that but it is not able to be viewed and not large enough to load the Safety Cameras for Europe. Even the Dash Cam 35 which is compatible with the US & Canada and Australia & New Zealand regions don't have enough space to load Europe regions. Which is why you were informed it was not compatible.

Such a cheap and easy manufacturing change but they still build them with little room for expansion, why ?
