I have had a 3790 for several years. I prefer to have elevation units in metres and distance units in miles. I know there is a way to change elevation units to feet, but I can't remember how. The reason for my question is because I just bought a 3598 (before it goes end-of-life). This unit seems to only want to display EITHER [miles / feet] or [kilometres / meters].
I can't see a way to change the elevation to metres whilst keeping the distance units in miles.
Have Garmin deleted this facility during one of the software upgrades (running 5.0 incidentally) ?
Perhaps the 3598 never had this 'mixed unit' facility, but I know for certain the older 3790 did.

I don't believe this can be done, certainly not on the newer models.

Look for a file called 'locales.*** '.
Scroll to 'United Kingdom'.
Under 'units' change 'UK' to 'Statute'.
Make sure you backup file first.
Hope this helps.
