An interesting observation since installing the latest Tomtom map update; v960. I spotted it yesterday while driving on the M40........the notation on the screen saidM40/E05. Today I had M42/E05 and A34/E05........but funnily M3 was OK. Has anyone else spotted this, or does anybody know what's going on?

Today travelling south-west on the M42 it was shown as M42/E05 through the section with the speed cameras, but the next section linking to the M5 was shown correctly as M42. The M5 south was showing M5/E05, the M50 was correct and the M4 was marked as M4/E30. Weird.

Does the following information tie in with your experiences?

E05 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_route_E05
E30 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_route_E30

cjay2412 mentioned this and I thought he was being facetious; I mean a route from Scotland to Spain, but I see now he was serious. All the places I went today do tie in with these new e-routes, so that's cleared that up. Thanks for the replies.

According to the Wikipedia article the E05 does not use the M5 and I did wonder why a direct route from Scotland to Spain would go via the South West (or is this Tomtom's latest routing Smile )

Actually the M5 is silent as in "psychology". The route given is M6 down to Birmingham, then M42/M40 - to get to M42 from M6 you'd go down M5 to J4/4A, note they offer an alternative of M6 Toll, but that would be a longer way round.

Yes, on UK maps and European ones.
I had an original TT700.
It was a bit confusing at first, being told to take E... instead of the M62.
They were marked as E..../M62, but the 'voice' only said E....

Well I've never, ever heard of that happening until very recently on UK maps and never come across it before on old Go Classic/300/x10/x20/x30's etc but maybe I've just never noticed in all these years of TT'ing, after all, what do I know? (don't answer that)

No need to use the M5 at all as that will just add distance, just stay on M6 (not Toll) straight to M42, faster route (when clear, obviously Laughing Out Loud )

Or save yourself a few miles, go A66 from Penrith to Scotch Corner and down the M1.

Phew! I am pleased I checked this out. I just downloaded the latest map version for my 930 and noticed the road number having the additional E details. I thought it might be aTT foul-up but now I need to check out the E15!

Thanks everyone.

Mike

I thought E numbers were supposed to be bad for our health?
