I've used Basecamp for years and do all my trip planning on it, both walking and driving. It works well with all the current crop of nuvis.

Thanks for that when I get it tomorrow I'll try it and see, do you then import to the satnav from Basecamp?

Yes. Latest nuvis accept shaping and normal viapoints from Basecamp, which makes route planning far easier. Previously every point was a viapoint that you had to hit, shaping points aren't announced and you don't have to pass through them.

Initially you'll need to do your route planning with the nuvi connected so Basecamp can read the map from your nuvi, but the first time you update your map ensure you choose the option to install to nuvi and PC, from then on you can plan without having to connect your nuvi.

Thanks for that. You have been very helpful. My old tomtom

still works although the maps are out of date and the price they want to update them is near the same price for a cheap satnav!!

Hence the new purchase.
