910 list of annoyances?

I'm thinking of getting a tomtom 910 as my first car sat nav device.

I'm seeing a few genuine gripes in some posts here, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of or has compiled a list of annoyances with the 910?

I had a Sony S700i fone which survived many thrashings and kickings (mechanically a good fone in fact) until it met the wall once too often at high speed, due to the incredibly irritating annoyances it had, I don't want to go the same way with the sat nav!

How are TomTom at providing firmware upgrades and are they free and easy to install?

No replies to this, but I can bring this thread to conclusion.

The tomtom go 910 was finally retired last month. I have used it since 2006, and overall it has done well. I used it for general navigation, but also in later years used to put geocache locations into it so I could stop on trips and grab some.

I got a replacement mount for free from tomtom as the original one had a known sagging issue. The new one did at the end too.

Because of the sagging, for years I used it with it just resting on the top of the dash. This (I know now!) was an error and caused many angry rages at it as it meant the connections weren't under weight and making proper connection, so it played up. Used to drive me insane.
A couple years ago I thought about it and realised the error of my ways. Life got better after that.

Another annoyance was lag entering places to go to. I would mistype because I didn't notice it thinking while I typed. That was infuriating.
Later I thought about that, and realised as it was querying UK and Europe, it had a lot of looking. So I updated the maps but bought only UK and Ireland. That also revolutionised the experience with it.

In 2014 I planned a 3 week and 4000+ mile Road trip around western USA, and filled the 910 with destinations and geocaches. It did great over there and preprogramming it made the trip work well.
Only once did it take us on an unexpected route (I planned the route on Google maps) but that turned out an interesting event anyway.

Then early this year in Scotland it started playing up again. We managed to make it complete the trip by jamming folded up paper into one side of the mount to make connection on the other, but since that trip I've not got it to work and have replaced it with a Garmin Nuvi 2599 which in reality is a lot better.

However the 910 has done well with me for 9 years, especially when you consider I have actually cut my knuckles on the bezel around the screen punching it in a rage!

Bought my TomTom 910 about 9 years ago too. Did go back to TT on two occasions and on the second return they fitted new motherboard and battery and a free mount. That was after 2 years.

My TT910 has behaved flawlessly ever since - my main gripe was with TT Home which would take sometimes 45 minutes to open.

Since the last update to Home it now works fine. Just paid for a new map subscription and with the camera database works brilliantly. As a delivery driver I use the Itineray planning on the device, and that is the main reason I have not replaced the device. In my old age the screen could do with being a bit bigger, and my company satnav is a free version of Navmii in the cab on tablet computer. Works OK but I prefer to rely on my TT910 for routing

Just looked at a 7" Truck Satnav on Ebay for less than £40, with the ability to eneter size height etc for route planning BUT emailed sellers and it doesnt allow 3rd party data to be added.

I bought a mount from a seller on Amazon a few years ago - no TMC connection but a much sturdier mount.
