Hi K. Just downloaded. You seem to have a zipped it twice. Got it in the zip, and again as a zip file within the zip. No problem per se, but why twice?

Oh yes Embarassed

I'll guess that one within the zip was probably the previous version. I need to find another hiding place.

Hope it works OK, don't forget you have to uninstall the previous one first as these new Microsoft ClickOnce apps are picky like that.

One drawback I've found is that it resets back to defaults which is a pain. That's because I'm using Visual Studio 'mysettings' which automatically saves everything into your user area under the version number.
Next time I'll keep the publish version number static and only increase the assembly version number and see if it keeps them.

HI Kremmen.
This is a great bit of software, thank you for all your hard work.
I have a question, your program edits the entries deleting the speed info doesn't it?

How easy would it be to get it make it edit more stuff? The Garmin based system in the new Mercs will not tolerate ANY numbers in the POI name. So I have to use your program, re-convert back to .CSV, edit each sheet with my own naming system 'GATSO AHEAD TWENTY MPH!' etc, and then convert back to .gpx and load.

This is a real pain in the arse (Of course not your fault at all)
How much work would it take to get it to edit my files for me?
I am willing to pay....
:-)

1) I never charge as I'm happy to help where I can.

Looking at the GPX output the description field is converted from and to:

NE-GATSO:10@50 (CSV Output)

NE-GATSO:10#50 (GPX Output)

What are you changing that to prior to using POILoader again ?

HI mate.
All the numbers have to go.
All my cameras are named 'GATSO AHEAD! TWENTY MPH' etc.
Obviously the text can be whatever, but the Merc system will tolerate no numbers of any kind, hashed out as per 'normal' Garmin rules or not.

If there are any numbers present in the name field, it completely screw it up.
I have had alerts from cameras where when I look up the camera number it is in Cornwall, I live in Sheffield, and I'm pretty sure there are no speed cameras on my drive!..... HAHA

I get no icons still, you and I have spoken about that at length. I have passed this to Merc. I make do with just the audio (voice also does not work in the Merc system, I just get the bongs) and the banner text box.

:-)

If it could say.
'GATSO AHEAD! THIRTY MPH
REDLIGHT CAMERA AHEAD!
MOBILE CAMERA AHEAD! FORTY MPH
SPECS ZONE! FIFTY MPH'

Etc, etc.
That's what I edit the files to read. I like the way your file does the rest with the adjacents and warning distances, that's why I use it :-)

I understand your warning messages. You said you are currently changing the text manually. I need to know what you are changing to what.

I've only investigated the GPX schema file for the current output and I thought the @50 or #50 was mandatory, but they are numbers.

Just post what you are currently changing (what to what) so I get it right first time.

So in the first example are you changing

NE-GATSO:10@50

to

Gatso Ahead! Fifty Miles per Hour

?

That's it mate. :-)
All in caps as it appears bigger on the screen.

I work via proximity alerts only as the speed ones are just too long, and too hit and miss on the Merc system.

:-)

If its loads of work mate, don't worry. And I am sending you money for a pint at least!

I don't fully understand but..

if you repace the .csv suffix with .txt you can then open it with a text editor such as WordPad. Then you can do a * Find and Replace* on terms such as *10* with ten.

This probably doesn't help because, as I said, I don't fully understand. Embarassed

Thinking about it, the camera ID's shall include those pesky numbers as well, however, I am sure that somebody, cleverer than I, knows a way around this problem.

I also thought that the '10@50' or '10#50' for example was important for POILoader but it seems not.

I'll make the change a totally separate function probably via a new user editable screen so the output text can be changed as required. I'll test it on my 2597 and see how it goes.

On the face of it, if it works, it could be useful to be able to control the warning banner not only on Mercs.

It might just be the Mercedes mate. I have had no issues with POILoader, but if there are any numbers in the name field it the whole thing up somehow and they don't work. As I said, I have apparently got a speed camera from Cornwall on my drive in Sheffield haha.

I set the proximity distances with your program and then remove all numbers from the name field, load the resultant .gpx via express mode with POILoader and everything works (apart from getting icons on the map).

I had a play around with VBA in excel last night, and I could do it this way just on the excel sheets, but I like your program, it's slick, looks good and is easy. If its output was :long:lat:GATSO AHEAD! Twenty MPH:proximity it would be perfect for the Merc. As above, you can of course use find and replace in excel, you don't need to open it as a .txt file first, but manually editing each updated database takes me around an hour a go. This may be slicker now I know all new additions are at the bottom of each page.

I have read every article I can find on POILoader looking for answers to the missing icons (until I found out Mercedes got Garmin to remove the function completely) the speed info can be in the file name, or the individual POI name, or not present at all as long as either the file or POI name contains a trigger word (GATSO, SPECS, REDLIGHT, MOBILE, SPEED) if no speed info is present and no proximity is set, it defaults to 400m for everything containing a trigger word. So I work solely on proximity set via your program.
:-)
